Does Matt have a criminal twin?

A man was accused of robbing a bank in Maine earlier this week. He got away with a sack of money, but eventually police made an arrest.

But it wasn’t really the crime that had the anchors talking; rather, it was the fact that the suspect is another addition to the growing list of Matt Lauer doppelgangers.

“I’ve got three kids to feed,” Matt joked when he saw the image of the suspect.

The resemblance was uncanny, and fodder for a few laughs at Matt’s expense.

“The getaway car was driven by a Katie Couric look-alike,” Al quipped.

Ann took a jab too, saying, “The similarity wins by a nose.”

“That was uncalled for!” Matt responded.

Will the real Matt Lauer please stand up?

Matt has his share of look-alikes out there, both real and fictional. Yesterday, People magazine unveiled a photo spread that shows TODAY hosts Matt, Meredith, Ann and Al rocking funky '70s style. The mustachioed Matt bears a striking resemblance to another anchor who’s “kind of a big deal”: Ron Burgundy, the fictional reporter played by Will Ferrell in the comedy film “Anchorman: The legend of Ron Burgundy.”

“I’ve heard everywhere from Ron Burgundy to a porn star, so … I’ll take Ron Burgundy,” Matt laughed. Natalie quipped that they looked like they were “separated at birth.”

Earlier this year, there were questions about whether Matt was related to another famous face – Abe Vigoda, the 87-year-old character actor best-known for playing detective Fish on the 1970s sitcom "Barney Miller."

So, who does Matt resemble more: Abe Vigoda or Ron Burgundy?

Funky! TODAY anchors' 1974 flashback

Matt, Meredith, Ann and Al bust a move on 'Soul Train'

Love, peace and SOUL … on TODAY?

Complete with hot pants, bell-bottoms and perfectly coiffed Afros, Matt, Meredith, Ann and Al brought out their inner disco divas this morning when they worked the dance floor of the “Soul Train” line.

“I’ve been known … to bust a move or two,” Meredith said.

No, they weren’t re-living the glory days of ‘70s, and the TODAY set wasn’t transformed into a dance club.

The TODAY hosts’ faces were digitally inserted into old footage from the funky classic TV dance show, “Soul Train,” courtesy of the Web site JibJab.com.

“Al and Ann I think look phenomenal, I look ridiculous,” Meredith laughed.

Meanwhile, Al was reminded that he once rocked big ‘70s hair.

It's important to have role models in life. Growing up, I always looked up to my dad. Well, my dad and Kirby Puckett. He was the epitome of a baseball player -- athletic, smart. He was not only a leader in the clubhouse, but in the community as well. The same can be said about my dad. Except for maybe that whole athletic thing (sorry dad). But he served as the perfect example when it came to a work ethic that I still strive to duplicate.

Everyone has these mentors in their life, including our anchors here at TODAY. So, I decided to ask the TODAY family in this week's Getting to Know TODAY: Who's your role model? Some of their answers may surprise you...

TODAY's search for 'The Lost Symbol'

One of the world’s most anticipated publishing events is rapidly approaching, and America’s number one morning television program will be on the forefront. In an exclusive weeklong series, TODAY is launching a countdown to the release of bestselling author Dan Brown’s new novel, “The Lost Symbol.” The eagerly awaited release is Brown’s follow-up to his No.1 international phenomenon and bestselling adult novel of all time, “The Da Vinci Code.” “TODAY's Search for the Lost Symbol” begins Tuesday, September 8 and culminates with a rare sit-down interview with Brown and Matt Lauer on TODAY Tuesday, September 15, the day the book hits stores. The interview will be Brown’s first television interview for the book release.

In recent weeks, Lauer has been busy travelling to top-secret locations that play key roles in “The Lost Symbol.” Beginning Tuesday, September 8, TODAY will reveal exclusive clues to these locations, one clue a day through September 15. The book’s most important scenes take place in these locations, and viewers are encouraged to log onto TODAYshow.com each day to try to solve the mystery.
