We have never thought twice about asking "how much did you pay for that" or "this only cost me xx". No jealousy or bragging, just interest. Maybe it's because we are consummate shoppers and like to know if a bargain was gotten, even if it's a house or remodelling. We have even discussed personal finances and income with the same open attitude. It has helped over the years to make us think about our own individual investments, purchases and financial conundrums. However, there is something to say about sibbling rivalry because as open as my friends are (we live across the country), my sister is the opposite. All our lives she has refused to discuss anything that has to do with money/cost. Even though my parents were always pretty open too. Sibling rivalry, go figure.
