Your flippant approach to "life" on Mars, and/or ruins, artificial structures, etc., is absolutely ludicrous to me, especially because I have been reading Richard C. Hoagland's latest book: "Dark Mission". His theories, postulations, conclusions, and clear photographic evidence, point to artifical structures, buildings, remnants of "machines", on Mars and our Moon. All of this evidence has been manipulated, covered up, and hidden by NASA, according to Hoagland. Your effort to make a joke of this, instead of conducting a thorough investigation, makes me suspect that you're either a NASA "puppet", or you're convinced they've been telling us the truth for decades while covering up the real evidence they themselves have found on Mars and our Moon. If ancient civilizations truly existed in our Solar System, what is so wrong with us knowing it. When you look at the awesome wonders of the Universe, including life itself, how could anybody believe that "God" or a Supreme Being, or whatever you want to call a divinity, could create intelligent life on just one insignificant planet.

Like a lot of us I believe that that there must be more than us us in the vastness of our universe. So why is it so difficult to believe that there may be humanoid life on one of our sister planets. Lets face it, the attempts to get to Mars have been less than succesful and well we really have to take the word of the powers that be that the atmosphere there isn't conduycive to support life, come on, when have we ever believed anything governments say. Ok, when the sun was formed it gathered gasses around its core so to start with it larger and starts to settle over time, so we could postulate that at some point in history Mars was as close as we are right now, so life may have flourished but knowing that the sun would eventually shrink to the size it is now they had to devise a way to survive the change to their planet. So you tell me what there options were.
I've got a few ideas, and I'm sure you do too.

I'm willing to believe that life did (or does) exist on mars and that NASA may have covered up evidence, but then why release this photo? It really does look like the Patterson bigfoot images. This has all the earmarks of a skeptics trap. Neither do I, and anyone who does it most likely just scared, fear has a strange way of expressing itself. It is one of two things I believe. From an artist's perspective it is either a doctored photo to distract us, diversion if you will, from some other truth, or we have a case of "good luck because we aren't going back to find out" which absolves NASA in either case. If it was a doctored photo, why do that to the public? However if it was not doctored, and there was no controversy, we would already have an answer or the rover would have been turned back to take another series of photos to determine the outcome.
Do I think it was an actual alien, no. It was either left behind or created to stand the test of time to leave behind a reminder or a message. Let's not be foolish, do the math if you can, for all the expanse of our infinite universe is someone out there going to really tell me, or anyone for that matter, that when there are more stars, like our own, than there are grains of sand on every beach on our little planet, that there is no way that there is another satellite(planet or body) close enough yet far away enough from another star to incubate life of some sort? I hope not. Think about it, that would be a mathematical impossibility. Who are we to judge that photo, NASA, I think not. However do not think for a moment they would not hide something to keep our world and our people safe, that is there job. Mass hysteria and panic is not there profession, discovering the truth is, even if we as a people are not ready for it. Like minded people about this issue may be ready, but imagine if the whole world were to find out that life not only exists outside of what we know, but "they" are or were that close to us at some point in time, not good, not yet anyway. I guess we will just have to wait.
However nature could not have created that shape, it is too smooth and defined, that was either put there or remains there. How or why, we won't know for quite some time, if ever, in our lifetimes.

I feel that this is simply a picture of an interesting rock formation made by nature herself. Think about it, humans have a habit of trying to find images in the things we see. Saying that clouds look like sheep, a scar looks like a state, finding animals and people in the constillations and, that cliff in Vermont (if I remember correctly) that was shaped like a old man's face. We are simply trying to satisfy our curosity for the unknown. My opinion? I believe that in our never-ending pursuit for what's out there, our eyes do deceive us. I am not above believing there is alien lifeforms in our universe. If you take a closer look at the form, it is part of the rock "underneath". I had to magnify the photo by 400% and came to the conclusion that this could be a female figure. And upon further observation it looks like you could actually make out a facial outline with a really cool head of hair. Also you can sort of make out a bit of shoulder with some sleeve coverage of some sort.

Lets not jump to conclusions....remember the famous mars face? upon closer investigation it was revealed that the face close up, didnt even look like a face. Maybe that is a sign that there is life on mars, but if so the it needs to be further studied, in this case the same area needs to be looked upon again, if the figure is still there then its most likely a rock, or who knows..it could be a statue of some sort, it does look like the same color as the rocks around it, if however its not there....dont be suprised if there is life after all on mars! :-)

I'm not sure who had the idea to add an additional Mars image with the looney tunes character superimposed onto it, but my take is that it's not a clever addition, but an ignorant one.

Although I shouldn't assume anything, I would think that whoever decided to do this, must have at least a bachelors degree in something, although probably not in journalism. Perhaps Bigfoot is an original Martian holdout stuck on Earth? And this could be a statue erected in his/her honor on Mars when life might once have existed there in the past?

My gut tells me that our Earth might very possibly end up looking like this landscape someday, although I'm trusting in the Word of God, which tells me that God will not destroy the Earth and paradise will be restored. Curious isn't it how this picture was released right in the middle of a huge uproar about very credible UFO sightings, lately in Stephensville. I suspect this is an attempt to discredit witness reliability by associating this picture which LOOKS like a figure but isn't with the witness reports of the Stephensville residents.
One could very easily point to this picture and say "See this really looks like a real person, but obviously isn't, just like what Stephensville witnesses saw looked like an Alien Machine, but it really wasn't -- See? Same thing!"

This image is a classic example of illusion. The body of the woman is a cliff face (away from the sun) with a fold in the rock which forms part of the upper arm. This shadow merges with another shadow of a rock lying at the foot of the cliff. The second shadow forms the fore hand of the woman. Copy paste a piece of the martian surface onto the forehand in Paintbrush. You will see the cliff.

I found the picture fascinating but back in October of 2006 George Noory of Coast to Coast AM interviewed an author named Howard West.

West and George discussed ancient Egyptian and Hebrew texts that narrate a story of Mars having Intelligent life. So I got a copy of his book called Quicksilver Key. I am VERY open minded about there being 'life out there', I am not arrogant enough to believe that we are the only intelligence in this universe. But I must say, even with such a small image, I have concluded this is a very neat view of a couple separate rocks being photographed at just the proper perspective to LOOK like an humanoid figure.

If you take the time to cover the bottom half (from 'waist' down) with a scrap of paper or something else - I used my cursor in a circle shape, and view closely, you will see that the top half of the figure is the edge part of he squarish shaped yellow/beige shaded rock seen next to the top of the figure. and then try it again by covering the top half of the figure (from 'waist up') and the botto half resembles the surround darker grey rocks all around the foreground of the picture. This is quite a neat view and it DOES look like a being of some sort. But after looking at it in parts (top half and then bottom half) I am convinced it it a legitimate photo from Rover and at first glance would easily be seen as a being of some sort, but is just a view towad the landscape that caught the rocks just right to look like that. Dang. I was REALLY hoping for it to be more.

i am reading that this thing is two inches high. why do we have two inches detail when previous artifacts discovered have had two miles detail? if our detail is really so much better we can see two inches as well as we could see two miles before, then why have we never applied this to the areas we see two mile high artifacts? why are all the images still of random exporation areas if certain areas have ever warranted another look? i dont know what this is, or why ppl are debating it as if life (albeit tiny life) but it does make me wonder the uselessness of the last ten years' progress in our technology. it's like we're evolving from naked eye to microscope but for some reason never actually focusing in on anything interesting, just always random samples.

Does anyone know if Spirit took any other pictures of this feature? I agree with thos who say NASA should go back there and investigate further.

If it were some sort of living being, it would then appear in different positions, or at least different postures, at different times. Presumably it would have weight and therefore leave footprints of some sort, as the rovers themselves have done; yet I haven't come across any rover pics with anything that looked like non-rover tracks or paw- or foot-prints. Without water, oxygen or any apparent kind of food on mars, and considering the temperatures, this would have to be a very different kind of creature to anything we know on earth.

Another consideration is the size - I believe that NASA scientists could calculate the size from their experience of the rover equipment and the terrain they've been driving on. To me it looks like it could be quite small, but I could be wrong.

Looking at the shapes of the surrounding rocks, although there are some sharp-ish edges on them, these edges run in approximately the same direction, indicating that the processes that have shaped them were directional, such as wind blowing mostly in approximately the same direction. The shapes of the darker parts are quite inconsistent with those of the surrounding rocks, although the colour is similar; but if a small rock from the asteroid belt came in recently and smashed a piece off a nearby rock, this could have jagged and unrounded features in odd directions if wind erosion has not had enough time to round it off.

What we are looking at could also be more like horizontal rock but with slight relief with such shape that the surrounding sand has blown in such a way as to expose the mainly horizontal rock with the shape that we see, and the head is a large pebble - this could explain it perhaps? The degree of contrast in the feature is higher than that of surrounding rocks and features in the same picture, and it is difficult to imagine how the rock and surrounding sand could be arranged to produce just such an effect - I can't blame those who say it looks like it's been 'photoshopped', and I guess we just have to trust NASA who seems to be saying that this picture is genuine. The only way to really conclude anything is if NASA goes back there and investigates further - I believe that they know pretty much where each pic was taken, and how to get back there. C'mon NASA, how about it? After all, isn't your main mission up there to establish the origins and nature of life? After 4 years of knocking around there, wouldn't you want to put your most controversial find to rest?

You can't trust pictures these days, NASA is having a good laugh with this one. As someone else said, the clouds take on different shapes and sometimes you see
GOD, Elvis, a fish, etc. in the clouds. This may very well be just that. The Rover took this picture and the angle that it was taken, it just so happened to resemble a human-like form. C'mon where are the rest of them if there is other life on that planet. Also, there is humans here on earth, that does not mean there are beings with our human form out there. It could be the planet of the apes, dinosaurs, lizards. Why human shaped beings? It's just too sci-fi, you know? The government bent over backwards to try to cover up the "UFOs" to let NASA just blow its cover just like that. I gotta admitt, the little part of my mind that almost believed it, sent a chill down my spine, what if they're hostile? But like other people said, why no close up or more shots of this "thing" at different angles?? You gotta admitt, it's things like this that let your imagination run wild!

This is a big universe, if you allow religion and goverenment to tell you we are the only ones here then the brain you were born with obviously doesn't get used much. Wake up, read books, form your own thought processes instead of letting others do that for you. The earliest form of intelligent social life, the Sumarians wrote about lots of visitors from other places, might want to start there people. The people in this country are like sheep being led to the slaughter on every level. STOP, increase your knowledge, research our world and what is happening around us. I remember when people thought that there were "canals" on Mars, and I remember reading about the scare that happened when a "live" broadcast took place concerning a Martian invasion...Let's get real...Mars gets down to -140 at night, has no real atmosphere, and probably no surface water except at the Polar icecaps...so, how the HECK can any kind of Humanoid life survive there ? Good Job Today Show. I laughed hysterically when I saw this piece. Marvin the Martian was a nice touch. The rest of you need to lighten up. With all the issues going on in this world it's nice to have some humor added into the newscasts. As far as the rock, well we all see what we want. We may or may never know if life exists elsewhere. Ok let me give you people a quick run down of what i think..

Yes it looks real..
Yes it could well be a haox like Neil Armstrong..

Yes its an image, its a shame the AI didnt take more than one picture so we could actually see if this thing was really moving from A to B.

Ok these people are scientists they will zoom into every corner of this picture to examine every peice of this martian world, so thats how they came across this thing.

Now if everybody looks closely with some logic you will see this is an unusual peice of rock/thing. It is one of a kind in contrast to its actuall surroundings if there were more rocks around the vicinity the same colour with similar sizes then yes this could well be a coincidence as this peice of rock appears to have a more life like upright human feature.

But look.. this peice of rock/thing is out of place there are no other rocks like it on the surface if you look carefully.. it seems as if though this thing was placed there sculptured well which covers my theory of being a hoax.. or it could well have been a martian.

So the summary of my findings as requested by CrazyT:

- It could well be a hoax as if though it has been sculptured and placed there,

- If there were rocks in the surrounding area alike then yes this could well have been a coincidence for it to appear like any other peice of rock (but this isnt the case).

- There are no rocks in the area which are at that particular height and upright,

- I dont think rocks grow in form of branches or in thin coloumns as this one appears to have an arm sticking out.. instead of a bludge,

- I even doubt if it rains for the rock to grow at that height unless its a got a special cloud over its head,

- There are no rocks in the surrounding area alike which means this could be a martian,
So what are your conclusions?

As I sit here with my "Marvin the Martian" sleep shirt on, I was totally amused by the picture of Marvin on Mars! I have no idea what is in the first picture, but years ago, as an 18 year old, a friend and I definitely saw a UFO up close and personal. I will forever believe there is life somewhere "out there".
