What people should be focusing on is not what size or weight you are but if you're healthy. I have always, as in from the time I was four, been what people would refer to as "stick skinny". I have always been a size zero. I have always eaten anything and everything I wanted and as much of it as I wanted. I've been to countless Dr's and they all tell me the same thing...I am perfectly healthy and shouldn't worry about it at all. I am just as healthy as someone who wears a size 6 but there are plenty of people who like to make ugly comments and say that people like me give girls an unhealthy body image. Talk about people judging a book by its cover. This girl should stand up for who she is and the fact that what she has and doesn't have is natural.

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

Are they kidding? And on mildly atheletic to non-athletic women that's mostly fat weight. So there's no way she's too thin people!! Look at the top of her thighs. If anything she should exercise and tone them up a bit(though I personally think she looks great as is). Pageant contestants should not look like the average woman. That's not the reason pagents or contests exist- they're for people with extra-ordinary appearance, talent and skills. What's the purpose of having pagents if all of the contestants look like they were just pulled off of the street? And another thing, I train people for a living and she does have a boyish, athletic build, just as she states.

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

Maybe she should just get a swimsuit that better suits her body.

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

They just want her to hang out from all sides of her top as if it was a bandaid. The young lady had a substance abuse problem and was threatened with the stripping of her crown - as if that would be a great tragedy. Donald Trump, being the promoter that he is, whipped up a feud with Rosie O'Donnell and brought the issue much more attention than it deserved. As a side note, how long can it be before said pageant is named "Miss Trump USA?" The whole thing was nothing more than a means of bringing Miss USA some attention and rescuing another of Trump's misguided, ego-driven purchases. I'm not sure if more people watched or if it drove them away. At the very least, it got Mr. Trump yet more time if front of the cameras.

The public has figured out that these events are about nothing more than physical beauty. They have nothing to do with talent and skill. Disagree? Name one winner who has gone on to accomplish anything of substance on the world stage.

The beauty pageant as a cultural event is coding. Someone call a time of death.
What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

Well, it's about time that this issue was addressed. I have gone through the same thing my whole life. I have always had a thin build and have never struggled with the over-weight issue. And who are any of you to say who "real women" are. They come in all heights, weights, sizes, and shapes. Just because someone isn't what you think they should be doesn't mean they're not the way God created them to be.

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

I am also 20 years old, 5'8", and a size 4, but weigh only 115lb (52 kilo). I have received negative comments my whole life regarding my size, but god forbid I comment on the obesity epidemic in America! That would just be socially unacceptable! She has made her choice and it seems to make her happy and she probably wants to win, so why wouldn't she try to be the ideal the judges are looking for? I'm glad she is decisive about what she is willing to do to get what she wants. Just because she is a pagent participant now doesn't mean she will be forever. How many of us wouldn't jump at the chance to do something out of the ordinary with our lives? I think many young women hope to use the pagent system to achieve all sorts of goals. I don't condone the pressure to think that ultra thin is the only beauty. I'm far from thin anymore since my son was born but I think she isn't doing anything that she doesn't want to do and she should be applauded for being goal oriented. She looks fabulous and why shouldn't she try to win? If I were motivated to do the contest I probably would come to the same decision to put on a couple pounds.

I am actually more interested in what she plans on doind with her life after she is done with the pagent circuit. What will all this pagent-life lead to for her? Actress, politician, scientist, professor? What comes next when she isn't a beauty queen? That is more interesting that whether she puts on the weight or where the weight goes.

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

This woman is beautiful, sexy, and should not even consider adding weight.

She is perfect the way she is, and very healthy.

Athletic and voluptuous are both beautiful.

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

When I was 20 years old I was a size ZERO, and five seven.

Don’t try to blame society for your own self-esteem problems. If you’re a certain size, and society makes you feel like it’s the wrong size to be, but you’re criticizing society for making you feel that way, good for you! Because you already realize that society is wrong in the way it views you or makes you feel about yourself. Now take that progress and go on to the next step: Forget about what society tries to dictate and look in the mirror and tell yourself how you feel about yourself, because only you can control how you feel about yourself. Don’t let other people judge you. If you’re honest with yourself, then you’ll either be happy with the way you are, or you’ll realize that maybe you have some changes to make to get to your happy place. Be brave: Love yourself, “fat”, “normal”, or “skinny”!
What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

Oh pleeeaase. Unfortunatly, so do the minds of todays youth. The beauty being shown to us today on billboards, tv, magazines, movies, and videos, is a lie. With all the teen suicide, depression, eating disorders, and emotional stress, shouldn't we really show the truth, that there is a wider defination of beauty. The truth is, beauty comes in all races, cultures, genders, sizes, and ages.

Everyday we see those magazine covers, tv commercials, movies, music videos etc. We think it has no impact on how we think. How wrong that is. Especially for youth. Young hearts and minds of guys and girls that just want to be accepted and to fit in. The young minds of boys and girls that see this ONE idea of "perfection" sent out from the media and the beauty industry of this country, this narrow way of thinking and what is considered beautiful everyday many many times, and they seek that "perfection" that doesn't even exist. There are so many young girls and even boys with eating, and emotional disorders as well as depression, simply because they don't fit into the mold of what the media says is acceptable and beautiful.
If we as adults refuse to listen, then how can we protect the world's children and talk to them about what true beauty is. If we turn our heads and pretend that these ideas and images do not impact our minds and the minds of today's youth, how can we help them see the truth about self worth? The video above shows a model and she is basically the same age, size, and with the same made up look as what we in today's society accept as beatiful...It's all about looks...so important that even a beautiful girl must be "corrected" by computers to go onto an advertisement that people walk past and see everyday.
It's disturbing. It's also unbelievable seeing just how accessible Cosmetic surgery is for teens now. It is always an option if one doesn't fall into society's mold of beauty. Look at your statistics, many teenaged girls are having cosmetic surgery from breast implants to nose jobs when their bodies are not even fully developed yet, because they say it makes them feel good about themselves. Looks, apperance, is that the most important thing about someone??? We say no, but our actions say differently. If we keep watching and supporting movies, videos and keep listenin to music that show and depict women only as sexual objects, and makes it seem cool for a girl to go half dressed, or be called "ho" or worse, how can our society expect to teach children, or even truely respect women or others and expect to teach girls to respect themselves if we continue choosing to be blind. Thinking that it doesn't matter. We need to stop and be aware of what the media, music, movies, videos, and magazines are telling us. We need to be aware of what we let into our minds without thinking and begin think about todays youth, sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, sisters, brothers, mothers, cousins etc. It is our responsibility to protect them from this narrow defination of beauty and help them love and accept themselves and be who GOD made them to be, understanding that is what is truely beautiful. We need to make certain that they know their worth and that they deserve to be respected and to treat others with respect. We can teach them early and save them alot of pain they will suffer if we leave them to learn it the hard way. We are all masterpieces of GOD...we are accepted by HIM...we are worth more to GOD than any amount of treasure this earth has or will ever have, combined. We need to know it ourselves and teach it to our youth, so that they can grow up happy in knowing that they are special in every way. May GOD Bless You.
What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

They don't want her to just gain weight - they want her to have big boobs and a big butt. She will just get a fat stomach if she tries to gain weight though. I have the same body type and when I was a little heavier it was all around the middle - still a B cup. I hate the obsession with big boobs. Thin girls are not SUPPOSED to have big boobs but all of them get plastic surgery so we think it's the norm to have DDs at size four when that's not at all natural. I know so many girls my age who have those awful fake boobs and a lot of them didn't even realize that those things have to be redone every so often. I can't tell you how many of classmates got those for 18th birthday gifts or graduation gifts from their PARENTS.

I am glad, though, that someone who is a four is actually being called thin. It's a refreshing change from "anything over 0 is too fat" thinking fed to us by Hollywood and magazines.

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

As a nearly 46 year old woman that is approx 5'4" and weighs only 103lbs and the mother of two - telling her to gain weight is easier said than done. I have tried for years to gain weight - believe me - some people just can't do it no matter what. She does not look unhealthy to me. Leave the poor girl alone. While I appreciate the contest sponsors concern over this, promoting a healthy lifestyle is more important. Some people are just meant to be smaller - don't hate us - shopping is just as much a nighmare for small people as it is larger people. When I purchase pants I have to have them altered - and I am buying size zero - because they are too big. It is not that great to be small.

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

I cannot believe that she is a size 4 when I am only 5ft 3ins and I am a size 6 to 7. someone has there sizing all wrong. They don't want her to gain weight they want boobs. Why didn't they just say get a boob job like they were thinking

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

If someone is healthy and happy, no matter what size they are, why should they change for society? I will share this with you...it's so sad...I know a young lady that was in a pageant few years ago...and she is a beautiful girl...well anyway...for like a month she starved herself to death...as did the other girls...if any of you know my friend and knew she was starving you would know how insane that is...as well as the other contestants in the pageant.

And you could say...well... if they don't want to do that then they shouldn't be in it...well come on...look who we as a society give young girls as role models?? Of course they want to be in a pageant and for everyone to think they are beautiful...Doesn't every woman want to feel beautiful?? When you are young in our society...the media and society in general makes it the most important thing...we may not want to admit it...but it is...It shouldn't be...but still it is.

Anyway...back to my point...another young girl in the pageant had also been starving herself for weeks and weeks prior to this event...she was taking diet pills...in her mind I'm sure she wasn't good enough...I'm sure she was aware of what the judges were looking for...the thinner the better...I'm sure as my niece was...this girl was in misery but continued to starve herself thinkin that it would only be a few more days and then it would be ok....well it wasn't for her....she died!!!!

At the pageant all the girls were there in their dresses...all the loved ones were there...excitement and anticipation filled the air...and just before the pageant started a lady steps up to the mic...and says...ladies and gentlemen...may we please have a moment of silence for the young contestant who is no longer with us tonight...a hush falls over the crowd...for like 10 seconds...10 SECONDS!!!!!!!!! 10 little seconds of reverence for a beautiful young lady who died tryin to be what "society" says is perfect...A young girl who just wanted to be accepted and to feel beautiful...gone... and the people at the pageant that she so desperately wanted to be accepted gave her 10 measly lil seconds...how heartbreaking is that.

What a sad day when people closed their eyes to true beauty and closed their minds to the concept that maybe more than just one certain type of woman is beautiful...we see a flower and to us it is beautiful...we see a tree...it is also beautiful...a mountain...the ocean etc...these are all different in shape, size, color, age, etc...but when it comes to human beings...especially women...only one certain type is seen as beautiful...not everyone has that opinion...but most do. A person can't help what he/she is attracted to...but I say make up your own mind...don't let society or the media do it for you...don't have this distorted and impossible standard for others or yourself...open your eyes and your minds to the possibility that our differences are what makes us special...if we embrace differences and choose to learn from each other instead of turn our noses up at it we would be a much happier people...For years I've tortured and hated myself for not being able to conform to what society says is beautiful...I write this in hopes to spare someone the struggles I have gone through inside myself with this issue...I've learned the hard way through much heartache, pain, and finally prayer that I am beautifully and wonderfully made as are you...Thankfully today as I sit here writing this...I am thankful for who I am...for my heart...for the way I think and for the way I look...for my differences and the differences in all of you...we are each unique and different in some way...and when you think about it...isn't it so wonderful??? Yes...I think so...take care and love yourself as well as others...GOD Bless You!!!!

We are GOD'S art...HIS great work...HIS masterpieces...

Psalm 139: 14

"I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: Marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well."

Hugs...

~*Cindygirl*~

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

At her age I was the same size I'm 5'8" and was about the same weight. I didn't get any real figure until I was in my late 20's. This pagent is supposed to be about more than physical appearance. She looks healthy and seems to have a sensible self image. Will we ever be satisified with the fact that beauty comes in all sizes, shapes, and colors?

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

I am 59 years old, weight the same and am the same height. What's the problems? We are reduced to jeans sizes and the spacial placement of our thighs and breasts.
Even more sad is the fact that grown professionals would tell a young, capable woman that she must reconfigure her body in order to possibly win a contest that is *allegedly* based on the overall picture of a well-rounded, intelligent woman.

After being clinically diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa, I am sensitive to the scrutiny under which women live. Her response of being willing to gain weight if need be tells me that she does not suffer under the delusions of an eating disorder. However, what of the women that do? How much longer are we willing to let such ignorant judgments of women and men prevail? Let her be who she is...she is obviously a balanced person with so much to anticipate. If she had ribs sticking out, that still is no reason to demand change of her.
When we get to the point that outer appearance is no longer being linked to success, we can say we have finally accomplished something in our society.

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

Sorry Guys but the woman is actually a little fat. They fattened me up and sent me home. I have never been a healthy weight since. Had they not triggered the metabolic response, I might be a healthy weight today! How dare these competition representatives expect her to damage herself with the guise of appealing to more women? Do they really think any educated woman will ever be interested in a competition that demands a woman to fit into the envogue cliche of the day? It may not hurt her. But then again, if she has an underlying health condition that she is unaware of this ridiculous experiment may have devastating results! If she is naturally athletic and trim, good for her! But this is more important issue than it seems initially. In now day and age, we tend to accept and/or take advice from our doctors to gain or lose weight. It becomes offensive when people who have no significant knowledge of the physical or psychological aspects trying to tell us that we should gain or lose weight. I am of a very similar “boyish” body type (still in the 20s and have two children). I eat what I want and when I want. I do not starve myself by any stretch of imagination. In fact, I am the first in line for “what’s for dinner?” I do not seem to gain weight even if I double-dip on occasion. However, from my personal experience, if I gain weight (I would really have to try hard), I would gain it in all of the wrong places and feel sick. Therefore, I am glad that Miss England is standing her ground. She is in her natural state and age where any additional changes would be extreme for her and may even be detrimental in the future. More research and consensus has to occur in the medical field in order to determine why some people stay slender while eating any types of foods and others do not. Prior to such consensus, any types of implied comments of such nature have no reasonable ground to stand on, and, therefore, may have ulterior motives or pure ignorance.

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

jb if you are a trainer, I would never go to your gym if Miss England is your definition of an athletic build. One of the dictionary definitions is mesomorph ie. putting on muscle easily. Miss England may be super fit and I think she is a very attractive young women, but she does not show a great deal of muscle tone in the photo. To me, athletic in a Hollywood tiny way would be someone like Jessica Biel, or Jennifer Garner who have very sculpted muscles.

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

Right on Miss World Pagent Directors, she needs added weight - specifically boobs. Time to see your plastic specialist

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

From the picture you have shown, she looks like she already has belly fat. I think, as others say, that it's all about the bust. The are ways to look bustier. From what I have observed over the years is that the contestants use tape and other materials to give that extra push up that they need for their breasts. So, watch the belly fat, it looks like that is a problem area for you.

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

I think Wendy nailed it. Now size 0s are normal for petites, which if they have narrow hips will be around that size at that age, now if we're taking about 40 year olds then size 4 is ok. And for 6 feet tall women, a range would be 2-10 for healthyness, with 10 being very large hips and older, 2 being young and narrow hiped. Many of the runway models are anotheric which is not good, but many are naturally that way. Instead of focusing on what the persons size is, look at their overall health, and if they are within a healthy weight range or just slightly over it which can happen, see if their eating crap and not exerising, or are they eating healthy and exerize and just have an odd bone structure. Shes not too thin, shes normal, maybe needs to exercize more but we all do, and eating fat is not the way to get a bust, maybe she just needs to work on her good features, and less on how much more she needs to eat cause it will all end up on her stomach if she gains it quickly.

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

only in america can this be such a controversy. in britian they really don't have an obesity problem because people are moving all the time and eat a lot smaller portions.
for those that say a size 4 is two small.
americans always want to put everyone into a cookie cutter box. the BMI and body fat indexes are the average. that means there is a lot of room for error. and not everyone and mostly likey most people do not fit into those molds.

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

This is simple. Forget her dress size: dress sizes are completely meaningless - the fashion industry has been changing them over the years in any case as the average North American, Australian & UK woman gets fatter.

This girl's Body Mass Index (BMI) is just over 19. BMI is easy to calculate which is why it's so widely used by health workers. BMI is equal to one's body mass measured in kg divided by the square of one's height measured in metres. This girl is 68 inches tall. So in metric, she's 68 x2.54 cm tall or about 1.73m. She has a body mass of 57 kg. So her BMI is approximately equal to 57kg/(1.73x1.73m2). Hence, her BMI is about 19.1 kg/m2.

A BMI of just over 19 is ideal for a young, fit athletic female. So stop talking rubbish about this girl being anorexic - any one who thinks this girl is anorexic has clearly never worked with those who suffer from anorexia nervosa and should keep their uninformed opinions to themselves.

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

Sounds to me like they want her to have a boob job and look out of proportion just like most beauty queens. I hope she stays true to herself and makes the most of her natural beauty. I personally think they should disqualify anyone who has "fake" boobs.

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

"Well, real women have curves", maybe she should wait a few years..I doubt that would help. I learned this “perfect image” requirement years ago while in college. I entered our local pageant (a pre-lim to the Miss America) with the hopes of winning a scholarship to assist me with my education. I thought I was entering a pageant that wanted someone who was out-going, attractive, with good morals, and a strong platform to represent the college and city at our state pageant. What I found was that they wanted an image. I was 5’1” 97 lbs, 34C-24-33. I had the figure, looks, talent, and personality, but was told by the pageant directors that I would never win a pageant because I was to short and there is a “look that they want”. I think the idea of what a pageant represents (positive role models, means for better education, spokesperson for a given platform, etc.) is great, but this has all been lost somewhere along the way. We need to use pageants for the right reasons. Pageant winners should be seen as positive role models, represent important issues, and use their status to present this to America.

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

she has no hourglass figure for sure. dont see anything sexy about a skinny man or woman!!!!!!!

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

W. But just to clarify some things, just because someone doesn't LOOK too thin or have an extremely low BMI, they can still have an eating disorder. So everyone who's been assuming that because they think she does look too think she must be anorexic, you have no real proof of that. But I do think this country (and many others) have a horrible view of body image. Period!! looking at her, and hearing her weight, and height she is technically about 10-15 lbs under weight.

All of you people out there who think she is fine how she is, or thin is better are part of the problem. you are the reason that people in the nutrition industry have jobs, because we have to go around reteaching people about healthy normal eating habits and body images. So thank you for being so ignorant and thinking that she looks perfect, because that lets me keep my job.

For the record, she is not athletic, look at some of the athletic women in this world and compare her to them. She falls way below athletic.

If everyone would get the correct information instead of listening and believing false health facts we would all be better off. The body image in this country is so messed up and backwards it makes it impossible for people to believe all it takes to be healthy is to eat right and exercise.

Anyways, for a model she fits the bill, but as far as health goes, she is underweight and should probably work out and gain a little weight.

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

The number of whining comments from skinny women who just cannot gain weight is amazing. You are incredibly lucky and should be grateful. My mother was tiny and thin almost her whole life, she has gained a very little now and is thoroughly unhappy about it. I would give almost anything to be as tiny as her, but I have my Father's genetics and have a larger build. I am healthy 20% body fat, but I have larger hips 38'' and nothing is going to change that. I would just love to be tiny and look all petite and lovely, but it just wasn't my lot. It isn't very nice to be called chubby or have people tell you they are certain you would look better if you would drop a few pounds, good luck explaining that muscle weighs more than fat. I guess it is like the straight/curly hair dilemma no one seems happy with what they have. If you ask me, for today's standard of beauty the skinny women should be thanking their lucky stars instead of whining on these blogs.

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

Ok. reality check anyone? doesn't "beauty bagent" just scream "make yourself look the way others want you to"? she is perfect, but in a beauty pagent, you have to please others in order to win. if thats what you want to do then gain all the weight you like, but if you are happy with the way you look, don't do beauty pagents.

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

If her natural body type is small let her stay that way. If a persons body type is larger, let them stay that way too. As long as it is healthy. The world needs variety. Beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, colors and nationalities. No one body shape should be considered the best look or body type. That is why there are so many people out there with body image issues when there should be none.

What's Really Behind Miss England's Weight?

Zhang Zi Lin's (Miss World 2007)(Miss China) height is 71.7" or six feet. She weighs 128 lbs. Her measurements are 35"-25.2"-35". Georgia Horsley's height is 5'7.5". Her measurements are 34.5"-25"-34.5". Miss World's weight and measurements and Miss England's weight and measurements are about the same but Miss World is four inches taller, so Meling, Tianjin, China was right about Miss China in comparison to Miss England. It looks like the pageant judges preferred a more stick thin lady and Georgia Horsley for her height might have been too fat compared to Zhang Zi Lin, the winner of the Miss World pageant.
By the way, there is a lady who plays tennis very well in spite of being a stick thin 6'2" and 130 lbs. Her name is Maria Sharapova.
By the way, I ask that John D., Cindy of Crossville TN, and Cindygirl of Nashville TN, pray that God will help me pay all my back tithes with at least 80% deductibility.
It would be an honored privilege if Becca would let me have someone take a picture of me with her on Friday, February 29, 2008, or on Saturday March 1, 2008.
To me, an ideal lady is one who is both, built similar to how Iris Kyle is built, and able to run 5K's in less than 28 minutes. (Then I could do training runs with her.) But I am not worthy of such a woman.
