Bruce Springsteen and the E Streeters are THE BEST musicians out there. It is NOT "just" the amazing lyrics Bruce writes, it's not "just" the intricate music that is created and performed, - it is not "just" the stage performances with constant interaction with the audience.......each and every member of the band are amazing performers -- AND THEY ARE ALL down to earth, friendly, nice people.

Being lucky enough to get tix to one of their shows, -- it is truly a Religious Experience.

I simply can not say enough positive, emotional, admiring things about this band.

The fact that they sell out arenas and stadiums within 3-5 MINUTES speaks in of itself.

Thanks for the insights! My first concert ever was Springsteen in 1976, and I was the school photographer at the edge of the stage. He took pictures, and based on his rockability, the pictures could have been taken last week. One of the all time greats. Once upon a time there were 2 girls named Wendy who met in middle School in 1974 and became friends for life.

Back in 1975, it was the dark ages- no Ipods, Internet or Compact Disc.
But we did have the WNEW FM Radio with Dave Herman , Scott Muni , Alision Steele and lots of other great DJ's'

WNEW introduced us to Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band.

When Born to Run came out, It was our anthem song about surviving high school & growing up in a small town. And our name was in it.

Wendy & I are still " Born to Run". Of course our running, is to schools, work and all the activities our young children can fit in a day.

After years of saying we would get together, we decided it was time for US to do something for ourselves.

Wendy is flying in from Florida & we are staying in NYC for three days.
We will laugh, giggle & cry .
And we'll probably pull an all nighter on Thursday, so we can see Bruce Springsteen & E Street Band at the Today Show On NBC on September 28 2007 .

I was fortunate enough to see Bruce in the early 70's at Grady Gammage auditorium at Arizona State University. He had the third balcony swaying in time to the music so intently it damaged the support structure of the balcony. My newlywed wife and I watched part of the show from the wings for fear the balcony would collapse under the stress.
And yes, in the audience we saw "all the little pretties raise their hands!" If his show on Friday is even half as exciting as the two previous times I have seen Bruce and the E Street Band perform, we are all in for a great treat! ROCK ON!

I've been a fan of Bruce since the late 1960's, when he had his first band, Steel Mill. I grew up around Freehold and Red bank where Bruce is from. Occasionally, I would see him at parties (he was a legend even in the Steel Mill days) and he was a quiet, unassuming guy, never flashy, who didn't drink or do drugs that EVERYONE else, including me, were sucking down! But, no one ever came down on him for being "straight". A true upstanding regular guy.
My last night in New Jersey, June, 1982, my going away party wound up late at the Royal Manor in New Brunswick, N.J. This place had 5 clubs inside it. Huge. The largest room wa the Rock Room. You could put 2 Stone Poney's inside this room. Four bars. Band was on break and I was talking with the guy next to me while waiting for the bartender. Band comes back on and says they have a special guest and asks him to jam with them. The guy that I was talking to leaves and jumps up on the stage. It's Bruce!! I've been a major fan of his since 1969 and I didn't even realize who I was talking to! THAT is how unassuming Bruce is! That, and all the refreshments I had that day! LOL! Point is, Bruce is the kind of guy that ALL guys would like to be. Honest, level headed, never rude. All around American guy. AND, Jersey's favorite son!

I am pretty much a Bruce fanatic. I have seen him in concert no less than 50 times, beginning with front row seats at the LA Sports arena in 1981. Pre-Cortney Cox, Bruce plucked me from my seta and danced with me to Sherry Darling (remember that one?!) My ticket cost $12.50!! And you had to send for them via mail order. No joke! We moved to NJ 2 years ago, and I went to the Devils and Dust show at the Meadowlands and am happy to say I did score tickets for one of the upcoming shows. Still calling Ticketmaster every 2 hours to try to get tix to the rehearsal on Friday! The Boss & his music does this to you!!

I have been a fan since sitting near him at a Nils Lofgren concert in Blacksburg Va. in 1975. He had come to watch his friend (now bandmate) play. And sat in the audience with the rest of us. I have never had the oppurtunity to see him live because of the criminal way the tickets are sold. His ticket prices are 69 and 99 dollars, but there is absolutely no way you will get a ticket anywhere near that price. I tried to get tickets at 3 different venues as soon as they went on sale. Its so unfair to fans to have to bow down to scalpers to get to see their favorite musicians. Until the practice is stopped I will never get to see this great band I am afraid.

Matt -- I was fortunate to attend the "Born in the USA" Tour at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas while I was in college. I will never forget: The concert was slated to start at 7:30; we were outside the Cotton Bowl meandering around, looking for our entrance -- assuming one or two backup bands would precede his performance. At 7:30 on the nose, Springsteen was on the stage striking the first note on his guitar of "Born in the USA." I was so struck by that -- no big ego needing to make the fans wait a couple of hours and listen to backup bands; instead, Springsteen was on the stage at the time the ticket said the concert would start. And, of course, he rocked the house for hours. As you point out in your article about lyrics in the songs, it's the small details that make his songs, and him, great.

First heard Bruce when an "underground" station in Chicago, WXRT, played Greetings from Asbury Park in 1973 and I have been hooked ever since. Saw him at New Orleans Jazzfest on his last tour, outstanding set.

I remember the first Rolling Stone article on him with the classic line "I have seen the future of rock and roll and he is throwing up on the hood my car" after the author and Bruce went out drinking following a performance of Bruce and the E Street Band.

Bruce and I are about the same age and we have spent decades together through his music. Rock on Bruce, you ARE the man.

bob from granby mass you're an idiot, but entitled to your opinion. saw bruce for the first time at providence college's alumni hall just when born to run was released. at that time he wouldn't play to more than 5,000. also saw him in the worcester and providence civic centers where he blocked off half the arena to meet his 5,000 limit. bruce and the e street band was and is still today my favorite group. i live in florida now and am disappointed that there are no dates in florida. but isn't the released sites just half of his tour? shouldn't he pick up again after the holidays and tour the south and other parts of the country that weren't included in his fall tour?

Whoever thinks Bruce should be doing county fairs and Vegas obviously has not seen him play recently. Bruce has not slowed down! He is in excellent shape and still runs from one side of the stage to another & jumps up on the piano. For the Rising tour he was sliding across the stage on his knees and I would not be surprised if he did it again on this tour.
His concerts are full of energy and he puts his heart and soul into them, they are actually like a spiritual revival at times. He is still selling out venues and has the ability to control a crowd like no other nd have them eating out of his hands.
Vegas, really youve got to be kidding!!! He is not a flasy, fake showman, the type to sing the same song over and over again. He often adapts songs. Who else would have the courage & talent to take "Born to Run" and sing it as a slow acoustic version, making it just as powerful?

My dad (who passed away last summer) and I both loved the music from the early days, and when things got tough between a headstrong teen and her dad there was always "Thunder Road" to bring us together. The love affair with Springsteen continued, and is porbably the only music my 23-year-old son and I agree on. Gee, I guess I missed the best part of "The Boss". I was invited to see him in Indiana. I think this was back in 1993 or 1994. I can't remember the name of the place but it was a rather small venue. I think the place held maybe 300 people total. That experience turned me off Mr. Springsteen. It was a one man show. As expected with any Springsteen concert, you expected it to be loud and lots of fun. So, when he came out and the crowd started cheering he went silent. He demanded it be silent. Would not start performing until you could hear nothing at all. The crowd went silent in a sort of perculiar way. Not knowing what to expect. When he was playing he was awesome, but, he was so rude I wished I had enough nerve to get up and walk out. That was the concenses of most. While Mr. Springsteen was singing, someone in the crowd hollered out from the that they were from Freehold. Mistake! Big Mistake! Bruce stopped playing and in a very matter of fact attitude, he says, "Why the F-ck is it that people think just because they are from Freehold that this means anything special to me?!" He ranted on this for sometime. I'm certain I wasn't the only one feeling sorry for the guy who yelled that out. We all had our mouths open and our jaws down to the floor. Boy I wish I had the nerve to get up right then and there and just walk out on his performance. It was an evening I will never forget. Since then, I refuse to listen to anything by him. Ever! He was the rudest entertainer, I had the opportunity to meet and I've luckily had the privledge of meeting many. What a lasting impression on that crowd of 300. Glad my tickets were complimentary. I'm surprised no one else has mentioned this before. Or maybe they have and it's just not been printed.

I was Jim Bell's freshman football coach in his hometown of Branford, Connecticut, and on the committee that selected him for his well deserved Sports Hall of Fame honor. I want him to know that after watching Bruce back in High School & College during the mid 70's, I was one of those paunchy fans that had the luck as I was front center stage Monday Night at his show in Asbury Park. I will never be able to duplicate it. It was a dream come true. After the concert Bruce drove out with Patty in his convertible and waved to me a few lucky fans on his way back to Belmar. I was lucky to be able to see "The Boss&company" back in 78, hes still the "The Boss", and he can sing and say what he wants. I mean this is still America isn't it? After the Reagan thing, I think he decided to always make it crystal clear where he stands. Also got to say, Lil Steven you are the BEST DJ on the airwaves, The Underground Garage rules baby !!!!!

Just want to thank NBC and Today Show and Matt, for doign the right thing and letting the moment happen. So often it's the horrible things that cause a schedule to change, how wonderful that a big corporation could sense how special and real today's show was. But as someone whose been following Bruce since the early days and all the days in between, no one should have been surprised at the spirit of the E Street Band this morning. You thoughts are extremely important for me as they reinforce what I've believed about Bruce's personal values and approach to family and life. And, those things are important than anything he has ever written, released or performed. My family and friends will never understand the connection Bruce, his music and all members of the E Street Band have with us, their most avid fans. Oh My God! What great close ups of Bruce "The Boss" from the camera crew of NBC at the Rock! I taped the concert for my husband and never have I enjoyed seeing someone my age perform with such passion!!!!

I am very excited to hear the new album from Bruce. I have been a fan since early teen years. My all time fav is Greetings From Asbury Park, Born to Run, The River. Those are classics. I hope this holds up to it. I live in Florida now, originally a Jersey Girl!!! Hey Bruce you need to do more than one show down here in Jacksonville. Tickets go so fast!! I am a 57 year old grandmother living in San Francisco Bay Area since 1968 when I ran away from home (in upstate N.Y.) to join the Hippies. I did not get into The Boss untill about 10 years ago.
