OR DESTINATIONS TO OUR NORTHERN NEIGHBOUR, CANADA. GIVE THE FOLKS A DESTINATION CLOSE TO HOME AND MORE AFFORDABLE DURING THESE DOLLAR SQUEEZING TIMES. Time for TODAY to venture west to the incredible state of IDAHO...and the snow capped peaks, crystal clear trout filled streams and pristine lakes (and NO, I DO NOT work for the tourism departtment...I am actually a city gal turned country/small town...came kicking a screaming leaving behind my beloved malls and Nordstroms!!! And over the course of 24 years and many road trips, hikes and excursions hither and yon, have grown to deeply love this state and call it home...so...you have the official invitation to "COME ON DOWN" put up your feet and "set a wile"...watch the snow fly, the sun set, the elk cross the hillside or an eagle roost...you could do it all in an afternoon! You may have heard of the famous Sun Valley Ski Resort nestled in the Wood River Valley in the heart of the Rocky Mountains...well, that's where we lived for 15 years and then the last 9 years, just down the road in Hailey, Idaho a small "bedroom" community that provides support services for the resort. It's a gem as well...gotta do it! Look forward to hearing from you!

Go to Branson, Mo!!! Everything for everyone of any age is there. All kinds of outdoor sports (boating, fishing, horseback riding,hiking, biking,caves,etc.),shopping galore (outlet malls and shops,crafts, The Landing), entertaining shows for all ages,great food,amusement parks and plenty of activities for children. PLEASE go to Muskegon, Michigan...it is my home town and a beautiful place on the shore of Lake Michigan (the best kept secret in the US). First, Michigan needs the economic boom from tourism more desperately than almost anywhere in the US. Second, you rarely travel there and when you do you go to Detroit which is not typical of what Michigan is like. Third, it would be a great example of an affordable place to go for beach/water sport activities like boating fishing, even mountain climbing (in the UP), and of course there are a slew of winter sports too! I think it gets overlooked and the whole western shorline of the state is fantastic. And the golf is GREAT Matt!

I'll chime in with the Michiganders on the list: Come to Michigan! I've lived in about 15 states, 7 countries, travelled in about 30 countries and it's Michigan where I plan to retire. Seriously! Beautiful, affordable, solid and grounded people, gorgeous weather (after a Michigan winter, nothing beats spring!)

There's alot more to Michigan than Detroit, autos and the RedWings. It's the upstate areas that will really wow the Today crew and viewers. Incredible west coast - Sleeping Bear Dunes is jaw dropping amazing, fishing, hiking, waterfalls, scuba, Mackinac (pronounce MAC-kin-naw)Island, Drummound Island, the thumb, Lake Huron coast,... and of course, the UP (Upper Pennisula).
