For almost every segment on the Today Show, there are notes written. Sometimes lengthy, sometimes not. They can be background about a story, or a rundown of how the segment's been planned to go. I lived in Cape Town as a Mormon missionary for two years and have often told the story about the scary baboon who jumped into our van and stole a Twinkie out of the hands of a toddler. People thought I made it up...Matt's description is very accurate. Don't mess with the baboons

We're in Baboon Country

I cannot begin to tell you how excited I was to hear Matt give clues to his last locationas I was heading off to school! I immediately began yelling "Capetown, South Africa!" Not only do I teach Middle School geography, I will be going to South Africa this summer! I put on the Today Show as soon as I hit my classroom, and my 7th grade homeroom excitedly joined my "watch" for more scenes of my future destination. This is one of my many dream trips I am finally going to take. Last year this same class worked on a huge project that is a regular assignment in 6th gr. They pick countries in Africa, plan trips in great detail, research the cultures, history, geography, write the embassies, fill out passport applications, list the items to take on their "trips", develop itineraries, draw maps, design postcards, and write a 7 day journal describing their adventure. Now I will be doing it for real and they are so excited for me!!! I will be spending a fortune sending them real postcards this summer. I will be going on safari at a private game reserve in Kruger, exploring Jo'burg & surrounding area, and also Capetown. I am planning to ride (horse) in the wine country and on the Atlantic coast. I also am looking forward to watching the Southern Right whales as they migrate to the waters off Hermanus. Thanks for the wonderful scenes of the Capetown area and people. I will soon have my own!

This morning, I listen to Matt Lauer explain what the large sticks are for when Meredith asks him what he would do if he didn't have the stick. When he claimed that he had Sean Reis to hide behind my mouth just dropped. Then in the back of my mind, I remember his brother, Phil, telling me once that Sean worked in New York for NBC. I babysat for Sean when he lived down the street from me and I was a good friend of his brother, Phil. It was good to hear a familiar name and to a person that I actually knew. Good for you, Sean. You probably don't remember me but that's ok. It sounds like you have a tough job - all around the world in 8 days...life is tough but someone has to do it. Please say HI to Sean! Good Luck - I love the show!!

We're in Baboon Country

Sean,
