It took me 7 days to read. My mom and I read before I went to sleep. I like the magic, I would like to get a book like Hugo had that tells me how to do magic. We liked to look at all the pictures over and over. How did you learn to draw like you did in the book? How does Hugo find the mechanical man when the building was burned? It should have burned with everything? I like the end where we get to see Hugo's new face. What were the ashes that the toy seller had? Were they part of Hugo's notebook? How did the toy maker find Isabel when her dad died? How does the toy maker make the pictures and anamations? I like the picture of the stairs and how they go round and round. Why did Papa Georges stop the magic business? Why did Isabel steal the key? How does the mechanical man know what he is drawing? Do Hugo and Isabel like each other? We are so excited to hear about your book club. I am a grandmother raising my 12 grandchildren, nieces and nephews ranging in age form 2- 18. But many of them are special needs children and can't really function. I think this is a grand opportunity for them to excel! It is our desire to introduce this club to our elementary school this week in hopes that I can stir a school-wide interest as well as make my own grands feel comfortable about reading. There will be no reading levels and no pressure. We just plan to make this as super as possible. We have enjoyed you in our household for as long as many of them can remember. We pray that this book club will be an inspiration for all kids, whether they are up to par or not. Our aim is as yours to encourage a love for reading. It was a wonderful read, a page-turner. The double-page illustrations that are a part of the story are great! (I'm glad that Scholastic put a sturdy binding on it because of the double-page spreads.) Hugo Cabret is a book that has me regretting my retirement after 34 years as a school librarian. How I'd love to share it with my students! We have read numerous books that have really opened the kids eyes to different topics. We were featured in the local paper and we think that Book Clubs are awesome. We meet tomorrow and will be reading the book that Al Roker spoke of on the Today Show.
