From Bow to Wow: BIG dogs edition

From TODAY correspondent Jill Rappaport

It is that time again for my favorite segment: From Bow to Wow. This time I wanted to focus on BIG dogs, since their size does present a challenge when it comes to adoption.

At Animal Care and Control of New York City, we found four true beauties, all in desperate need of a loving home, and this was their lucky day! Starting with the females first, we found Sonya -- a gorgeous flat-haired retriever mix, who was sadly left tied to a pole, but she is so sweet and affectionate that she would be a gift for anyone. Next, there is Phoebe, a stunning Australian cattle dog with a heart of gold and eyes that will melt your heart.

Now for the boys, with Marcus -- the magnificent German shepherd whose owner had to give him up, but what a love bug this boy is! He is so regal and powerful, yet so gentle and sweet. And finally there is Jack the Jack Russell. I know what you're thinking -- no, he is not BIG in terms of his size -- but what a BIG personality he has! So he definitely deserves to be in this mix!

Each of these dogs is so filled with love, and just waiting to share it with you. As the owner of four dogs (two females, two males), three BIG ones and one small one with a very BIG personality like Jack the Jack Russell, when I look at this group, I feel like I am in my own backyard! If you have been looking for a BIG dog to share your life with, I hope you will consider one of these precious pooches. They have so much love to give, and because of their size, there is that much more to hug and cuddle with!

Dear viewers: If you're interested in finding information on how to adopt the dogs seen on TODAY, please visit the Animal Care & Control of New York City's site at nycacc.org.

It was love at first sight with Sonya. She looks exactly like my Rosie, whom I lost last February. I'm still feeling sick about it and probably always will. I had her 13 years. But Sonya made my heart flutter.
How old is she?
Watched the show today & seen the segment on the dogs. Would love to have the German Shepherd. I have been wanting one for a couple years now. I have 2 Jack Russells; one named "Jack", and they are greatly loved. Love to play with the ball-fetch! With the economy as so, I can't afford the adoption fee, and I live in S.C., so I can't afford the shipping of "Marcus", either. I hope someone adopts him, in fact all of them! I'm glad to see this segment on the Today show, to see the dogs have a chance at adoption and to live. Thanks!---------Brandi Shuford
Love Shepherds, Love Marcus. Ready to adopt in NC
We adopted Buddy in '97. He died in 2007. We've been looking for another sweet boy since he died.
Thanks,
Nick Davis
We would love to adopt Jack.  We have a spayed female Jack Russell named Wendy.  Wendy needs a friend and we think that Jack would make a perfect friend.
We are interested in Sonya. She looks incredibly like our Bailey ( mix of flat hair retriever and Cheseapeake) whom we lost last September. Looking for contact info. I looked on the website and could not find his information. We can offer a country upstate home for her!
We are interested in Sonya. She looks very much like our deal Bailey ( mix flat hair and Cheseapeake Retriever) whom we lost last September. She would have a wonderful country home in upstate NY! I tried to find her on the animal care & control site but could not locate info or her picture.
Jill and TODAY SHOW...MANY thqanks for helping find homes for homeless pups!  I too adopted from a shelter (a purebred Weimararner) and she is the biggest love of my life!  the best dog ever!!!  People forget all the purebreds at the shelter just waiting for their forever homes!  Really, most of these dogs find themselves at the shelter for reasons not of their own!  So many families are having financial problems...and the first to suffer are their pets.  SO SAD...but thanks for helping!!!
Would love to adopt Sonya.  We lost our Golden to cancer last September. She would have a wonderful home in Eastern Ma. ten minutes from the beach and our home is set back away from the road on a 4 acre lot. She would be given lots of love, attention, and plenty of exercise.
To all who were wanting to adopt Sonya....she is the spitting image (including her weight) of my 9-yr-old
Sophie; who's mother was a pure bred golden & dad was a border collie.  She has been with me since she was 3 months old & is intelligent, loving, & very social. When I saw the segment on Today, I was heartsick that such a special dog (Sonya)would have been abandoned.  I pray that one of you can give her the home she deserves.  You will not regret it!
