If you’ve been around TODAY long enough, you know you can depend on Style Editor Bobbie Thomas for the most envy-inducing beauty items. Her office is a Sephora-jacked Wonka factory in which you’re offered everything from hair extensions to rhinestone-studded lollipops to fashion tape – basically, anything you’d expect to spot in Christina Aguilera’s emergency bag. It’s like living next door to Santa. And you find yourself looking for any reason to schedule a meeting (“Bobbie, can we discuss Kate Gosselin’s hair?”).
So I was thrilled when Bobbie invited me to join her at Bliss Spa to test-drive the latest celeb trend: Minx nails. Imagine metallic Lee Press-On Nails that can last roughly four weeks, but look more like grillz for your fingers.
What's the secret formula? Minx Nails use a solid nail coating – instead of liquid polish – which is heated and then applied to your nails like a deluxe sticker. That means no waiting for nails to dry – and more important, no chipping. Here’s the procedure:
Step 1: Grab a friend.

Step 2: Choose your weapon (I told them: “I’ll have whatever Beyonce’s having”).

Step 3: Prep the sheet with a heat lamp to make the film flexible.

Step 4: Resize the film to fit your nail shape.

Step 5: Use heat lamp to shrink-wrap the Minx covering.

Step 6: Whip out a special glass file to remove excess film.

Step 7: Enjoy a PETA-friendly Minx coat!
