Baby with crush on Matt Lauer dies

Posted: Wednesday, April 08, 2009 11:03 AM by Vidya Rao

Little Madeline Spohr, the baby who had a crush on Matt Lauer, died yesterday. Maddie spent much of her life struggling to breathe after being born premature at 28 weeks. She developed a cough on Saturday and was taken to the hospital.

Our sympathies go out to Maddie's parents, Heather and Mike.

I can not begin to imagine how the family must feel out prayers go out to them, I have just given birth to our beautiful son who came out without his hand I cried for a moment and then said atleast he is healthy and I am so greatful for that and feel bad for thinking even for one second that this would be a burden seeing what baby maddie had gone through in her short life has touched me and my family her life has impacted me and many others she will not be forgotton.
This news is still so fresh in my mind and painfully devastating.

Mike and Heather, please know that you are surrounded by much love and prayer.  Beautiful Maddie...your light continues to shine, it just shines down now, from heaven.
Thank you for sharing this heartbreaking story and encouraging others to give to the March of Dimes. My thoughts are with Heather and her family.
Dear Heather and Mike,
I am Lissa's dad. She called me yesterday to tell me the news. I can only say that my thoughts and prayers are with you both. You are both special people and Maddie was/is a blessing that will live with you forever. God bless you both.
Dear Mike and Heather, my name is Mary and when I read this my heart went out to you both, I am so sorry to hear your news,my prayers and thoughts are with you both, I am going to get a pink balloon and send it to the sky for her..she is a beautiful child.god bless you both....
Poor little lambchop. My condolences- as a parent who has lost a child, I share your pain. If it helps, her tiny spirit will always be with you and I have no doubt she will continue to feel the mighty love you will carry for her for the rest of your lives.
My thoughts are with Mike and Heather as they deal with this tremendous loss.  Maddie was an amazing child and she will be missed by many.
i am so sorry for your loss. the world truely lost a great little princess. i cant put into words how i even feel so it hurts to try and imagine what the family is feeling.
So many have come together to support Heather and Mike, but sadly, it won't change the sad fact that Maddie is no longer here.  It's the one thing I think we all wish we could do for them.  But since it's impossible, cyber hugs and wishes.

I also lost my infant son, Cooper, last August and I ache for Heather and Mike because I know their pain.  I will speak for them in saying to everyone, please remember Maddie.  Remember her in the sweet kiss of a breeze or the warmth of the sun.  Say her name so that the angels will sing.  But most importantly, if you are able, make a donation to March of Dimes.  The funds that they give for research and support are priceless to those of us who have lost our precious children.
i'm so so sorry to hear of you loss, just know that she is in a good place, and will never be sick again, and you will see her again.my heart goes out to you and your husband and both of your familys.
Love is beautiful although some people don't care some do and right now I'm crying for you!Poor poor sweet Maddie and her loved ones ecspeicaly Heather and Mike. What a loss and  so young it's horrifing.

I feel for you
Maddie was an amazing child, she lit up the world with those eyes and smiles. Heather and Mike have suffered a tremendous loss, but the outpouring of love from bloggers around the world has been amazing. Teams have started all across the United States to walk in a March for Maddie April 25th with the March of Dimes. This is a cause that is especially close to their hearts. The message to help cure premature deaths in babies is huge and needs a national audience. The Today show should do a story on this amazing outpouring and help get everyone involved in this great cause.
Good mornning !
I really loved the interview with miss america's second runner up.
WAY TO GO GIRL !!!!!!!  keep the faith!
I was really up set with the man and his views,  That was a lodded question no matter what that question could only have been answered in one way and that was the way the young lady answered it.
when did going against the bible become a bad thing?
Boy has the rolls changed from teaching from the bible to learning from to web page that reads for you.
Matt, I am so sorry to hear about Maddie. However, I am disappointed that I could find no place to respond to the fiasco of the USA pageant. My husband and I serve as Pastor's in St. Charles, Mo and we watch the Today Show every morning. I was quite disturbed, well, outraged over the USA judges. I would like for the judges to be reminded that our great country of the USA was founded on "in God we trust" and our forefathers were strong religious men who ran this country so much better than the majority of administrations in a decade. The reason for their success was not only because they were brilliant men, and some were, but because they did as Paul of Patmos did every morning and crucified the flesh and humbled themselves before an almighty God, honoring their creator by recognizing that He is truly in control and respecting is sovereign will. THAT is why America arose to the forefront as a leader and mighty country to be reckoned with. I would also remind them that Genesis states that God is THE creator of everything and although our parents had to come together for us to become a life, God Himself breathed life into us and new us long before our parents would. It states that we were created in His image...God was not gay! Furthermore, if they will read about Sodom and Gomorrah they will quickly learn that their lifestyle is considered an abomination before God. The Bible is politically correct and was the main tool used for leading this country in its more successful days. I am so very proud of Ms California and have no doubt that she will be a huge success for years to come because God awards those who are not ashamed of Him. BRAVO from the Family Fellowship Church of God in St. Charles, Mo.It is so refreshing to see a young member of society who still trust in God and is not afraid to use her voice.
