From Amy Robach, TODAY

When I was asked if I wanted to drive across the Canadian Arctic last week, I thought, "Wow, beautiful scenery ... amazing wildlife ...  the Northern Lights ... WHO WOULDN'T?"

Then they told me I'd be driving in a big rig hauling 70 tons of fuel .... across a SHEET OF ICE. For hundreds of miles. Hmmmm. I'm going to need more than thermals.

Watch video of our trip with the ice road truckers and check out a few behind-the-scenes photos from my camera, including an up-close-and-personal meeting with an Arctic fox...

On thin ice with my producer, Jen Long.

And, finally, our encourter with the fox....

Oh to be up north one more time! lived in Fairbanks for 2 years so appreciate the references!
Hey, be careful of those Artic Foxes - they all carry Rabies. I work in Pruhdoe Bay Alaska, and live in Louisiana. .. .looks like you guys are having the time of your life.. Good for you
Ice Road truckers is my favorite show, but this video was far more realistic. Very well produced.
I really enjoyed this story.  Next time do a clip about mining for them diamonds.  My daughter is a geologist, women in mining, interesting story line.
Amazing show, I can't stop watching for a minute...I lift my feet and curl my toes everytime one of those truck drivers drive onto the ice and when I hear the ice crack under them I want to scream. I had no idea there was such a profession...way to go guys
Thanks for sharing this story!!! My Dad has been and still is one of the Ice Road Truckers.
Im really impressed with these guys. As being a truckers wife I know how stressful it can get but nothing compares to this. My husband wants to be a ice road trucker so bad, that's all i hear, lol. Great Work you guys!
I was hoping to see Amy being towed on ice skates. Thanks for the story.
My husband is an ice road trucker for this company, he was there when the filming was being done, his truck is in a shot or two, he works for the company year round, when the ice roads are finished, he runs back and forth to Edmonton, Alberta to get the fuel that is stored in Yellowknife to be hauled up to the diamond mines the next ice road season.  I have to say that this was a well done news story, the ice road trucker series you see on t.v. is sensationalized a lot and not true to form....he laughs when he watched a couple of the shows (acutally he and some of the other ice truck drivers did while they were at the diavek mine and taking a break before heading back to yellowknife, guess it was a hoot for them to watch).  In reality, it's not about the "dash for the cash" like they talk about in the t.v. series, it's about doing the job safely and proficiently!  Well done Jen, you did a wonderful job.
Oops, I meant to say Amy, sorry Amy!
Our daughter did mission work one year in Red Sucker Lake, Manitoba. She saw, and learned about, ice road trucking while there.  My regards to, and prayers for, all of these drivers who bring some of the physical needs to these people of the North. I got to see this beautiful country in the summer.
