Why won't David Gregory follow me on Twitter?

From Jamie Gangel, TODAY

When I pitched a story on Twitter, the truth is I was skeptical about most online social networking. My house is a Facebook-free zone! There is no "friending," no blogging (except this one) and up to now, no Twitter. I was, however, curious why everyone from MC Hammer to Newt Gingrich was "tweeting." Why would you "follow" someone? Why would anyone other than my mother really want to know what I was doing? And most important, communicating with only 140 characters? Not possible!

After a week, I am still a novice, but I have learned in the course of preparing for Thursday’s Twitter piece that part of this strange, new universe is getting people to "follow" you. For example, my colleague David Gregory worked hard to get over 100,000 thousand followers, and Ellen DeGeneres has an online campaign now to get a million followers. So for the fun of it, I tried to get my dear friend David to follow me….

As you can see, it is not as easy as you might think. With the help of the Twitter community, we have launched a campaign to shame David in to following me. One thoughtful Tweeter, @marthavan, even helped out with this great photo of her irresistible dogs and this sign!

(For the record, she is trying to get Lance Armstrong @lancearmstrong to follow her!)

So far neither of us have had much luck. So if you know David or Lance, please tweet them and see if you can help!

Thank you for including me in your story @jamiegangel. Hope David gets his act together and follows you.  As for Lance - I'll keep trying, check this out: http://tinyurl.com/dxj6uo

@marthavan
Great and funny article...it basically sums up for me why Twitter is fun.
Such a funny on target article. I sit and strategize how to get particular folks to follow me as well as quantity! LOL  David - Do it!
Twitter is an excellent tool!  I find it to be helpful in many ways: connecting with friends, keeping up on trending topics, read breaking news, and getting professional tips and help.

I now consider myself a microblogger and all of my online tools are connected to twitter!

@RadioWayne
I just started to tweet last week, and I am addicted. My favorite "non-friends" that I am following are Ellen and FOB Pete Wentz. Their tweets are just too much fun!

As an author, Twitter is an amazing place to connect with other novelists.

Geez Dave, how hard is it to follow one more person? Make someone’s day “Today,” and “Show" some compassion...add Jamie...for Jamie’s sake, and for ours. Pretty please :]
I use twitter to keepup with what is going on with news, tech, & eco-things. I don't say or "tweet" that much but I  have been more recently since more people want to follow me because of my interests.
GOOD LUCK!
I have not learned how to tweet yet..but have heard and read articles about it.  I thought it was funny that our own NC Governor (Bev Purdue), made comments to her live audience about not tweeting during her talk.  It was a comical approach though.
I just started Twitter out of curiosity and have really been using it to scan through feeds and news links. I had no idea it's competitive! It is fun to read celebrity tweets though and wonder if it's really them.
RT @aplusk   @davidgregory will you please just follow @jamiegangel!!
I slowly started twitter for 3 months, but got the bug last week.And now I can't get off of it. It is so addicting, but a great way to connect with people you would never imagine. From what I have seen, you have to be yourself and not toot your own horn too much because real twitterers think it is annoying, like anything else in life!
I have been twittering for almost a week now...still don't get the attraction to it. You sit and wait for someone to contact you. You can reply all you want...NOBODY replies back! Thats not so much fun! Am I doing this thing wrong?
Ashton Kutcher is fun to follow but John Mayer...ugh Jen needs to drop him!
This looks like great fun. Not to feel bad; I don't yet have 2000 followers :).  Looking 4ward to segment.

Sincerely,

Rick London

PS: If Marthavan would loan me one of those
gorgeous dogs, I'd direct message all my
followers to follow her. Bet she won't. :)

PSS Jamie I added you but I don't think you added me, hey, quid pro quo!!
PS: "If someone is alone Twittering in the forest, & nobody is around to receive the Tweet, is it just a 140 character blog?" cRick London
Do we really need one more "addiction" in this society where people prefer to communicate electronically with strangers rather than face to face with the people around them?
