TODAYshow.com gets an Ambush Makeover!

Posted: Thursday, February 12, 2009 4:44 PM by Jen Brown

Yes, you're in the right place! TODAYshow.com just got an Ambush Makeover, and we hope you'll agree that it's for the better. It should be easier to find that recipe you wanted, video from a segment you missed this morning (or last week), expert tips, and more things that make you smile. Best of all, we’ve made it easier for you to make the site your own by moving the topics that you want higher on the page, choosing how much or how little you want on each topic, and deciding whether you want to see more headlines or more video when you arrive each day.

But we know that it may take some getting used to. To help you get what you want, here's a quick overview of the new layout, from top to bottom.  You can also take a video tour with Lester Holt. Give it a try and tell us what you think -  like you, we're always open to good ideas.

I don't get on the internet as much as I would like, but I really do like the makeover, it makes it so much easier to navigate and the videos are great. Keep up the good work. Peggy in Ohio
Digging the new site. The video tour with Lester is great.
While I loved the former warm color tones of the original design, I love this one too! It's easy on the eyes, easy to navigate and what's not to love about having "Food and Wine" as the first category?!! (I'm "WineWoman" on Twitter and follow @TodayShow) I might even have content for that Wine section later in the spring. Who would I send that to? I've worked with the Today Show in the past but not as a contributor. You folks are the best!  Cheers!
I HATE IT
IT DOESN'T FIT ON MY SCREEN
No, sorry don't care for your new sight.  There just seems to be tooo much here.  Plus, I miss Hoda and Kathi Lee's line up of topics.

Dedicated and now NOT so excited viewer.
I like it but there is no way (that I can easily find) to get back to MSNBC (aka a link to the website like used to be in the sidebar).
omg----so much better----seems to me that every time i would go to today show ---i'd get i-village and i couldn't find anything----do keep the info up about navigating the new format     good job---pat
MUCH BETTER!!!!
This is a grand improvement over the old design.  I like it!
wow, the site looks fantastic! Much easier to read and the layout just is much more welcoming. Keep up the great work!!
I don't like the new look.  Change is not always better.  Yahoo kept tinkering with their site until I left it as a home page.  Now, I am ready to leave the Today Show.  How could you trash an American institution?  Today was on TV when I was a kid in 1952.  It's still on.  Because I work, I don't get to watch it much.  That's what I liked about your old page.  It was so much like the show.  Please rethink your changes.
It looks nicer- but sorry too much information on the main page. What happened to Meredith's blog?
I don't like it.  I don't have time to spend figuring out the new format.  It has been a quick hit during the day for me to keep up with what is happening outside.  Difficult to get back to MSNBC.  I preferred being able to scroll through each topic before deciding which I wanted to read which I can't do now.  Too much info on the home page.  I will probably go back to BBC News.
I don't know why so many people are bashing your new site, but I love it!  It's so much easier to get around.  I do have a suggestion however.  Is it possible to put my local weather at the top and have a section for my local news?  These features are on the main MSNBC.com, so I doubt it's too hard to get it on here.  This would encourage me to use the site even more and check it each morning for my daily source of news.  Good Job so far!
Not crazy about the new format.
The new site becomes the TODAY show. I do not see a link to view Hoda Kotb. Can do without Gifford, however.
Thanks, Jacob!  You can customize the weather function at the top of the site.  Just click on the city currently displayed (right under the allDAY blog link) and enter your zip code or city name.

Thanks for the feedback!
Nice design.

You need a "career advice" tab, or something like that.  A lot of people these days need a clearinghouse of good information on the best way to find a new job, and a network website is the perfect platform to reach millions of people.
hate it.  have been looking for 2 hours for the 1st hour video.  all i found was the mp3, wav download and it's taking forever.
Very Very much better.  I was disappointed with the way you had it before this change.  It was very hard to manuever and find things.  This new change is wonderful.  Keep up the good work.  Try to keep the whole gang in line :o}
I do NOT like this.  Hard to find anything...espcially Kathie Lee and Hoda.  This is not a customer friendly website.
Hey Leslie...

Thanks for following @todayshow. Love to hear your feedback. Look forward to reading your take on wine. Feel free to pitch with a tweet.

Ryan
I am at work when your show is on and I love Kathie Lee and Hoda, where I use to click on more video and pick and choose what I wanted to watch. Now I can't find them, WHY THE CHANGE?!!  How can I locate the Kathie Lee and Hoda show?
much much better!!!
I like the horizontal display of some stories - it's a lot easier to read.
The new format is a fantastic enchancement to your web site. It is much easier to find the topics of your choice.  I love it.
I Hate it!!!!  The other was much better.
My first time on new site. seems ok except I don`t find information about concert on the plaza series. and an  ad for weight loss in the middle. but will not stop me from coming  back again and again. you guys rock. I wont forget my first  time spent at the plaza,  first week June 07.
I'm all for changes and improvement but I really don't like this new page. I have a hard time finding what I want and the plain all white page just sucked the fun right out. I miss the simplicity. I miss the warmth.
the web page is so much better!!!  I love the quick upload of current stories.  I am still looking for a way to connect to the daily broadcast LIVE so I can at least listen to the show while I am at work.  watching videos later, when i get a chance.
Too many videos.  I prefer to print info from the show, website links, recipes, products, etc.
I don't like it. I like to stream and listen to just the today show in the morning while working. I with this I get all the other broadcasts. All I want is the today show!
I like the new look because it seems cleaner and easier to navigate.  Don't like the irrelevant ads, but I understand it takes money to run a website.
Much better.  I like the similarity to the msnbc site.
I don't care for it. It's confusing and when I used the Push Pin it didn't even work.
I liked the old version better since it was different than msnbc.com.  I like to have variety in what I saw and it is too similar now.
I like the new site, it is easy. It looks alot like MSNBC site, which that one is also very easy to get around on.  Your change the main header to a different color, so it is different than MSNBC site.
Is there anywhere on the site where I can see the first hour uninterrupted? I miss the opening of the show, as well as, the first hour of stories. The old, old site used to have it and I miss it.
Yes, Joanne, there is!  Click on the Matt and Meredith icon in the tab box to launch the full player (the latest show will automatically play in chronological order).  In the left hand nav, hover over "previously" and you'll see the link to the first full hour.  Enjoy!
I miss the old version.  I liked it better, because it looked different from Msnbc.  I think it is harder to find the stories I am looking for now.
hey what happened to the "wedding" section?
Thanks! Jen Brown,

You have made me one happy camper.
Hi Kelly,
The wedding section is still there...it's just sharing a home with relationships!  You'll see it listed under "topics" on the relationships slice on the bottom of the page.  Here's a shortcut:
http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/23713175/

Take care!
Anything is an improvement over that garish red mess that you used to have.
I like the new look!!! Easy to find stories, recipes, and all sorts of articles.  Good job!!!
I like it.  It is easy to use and navigate, fits the color scheme and looks very professional.
I don't like it, it doesn't fit the screen and because there is so much going on it takes forever to load! And my computer is fast and the other website never took that long too load! It's frustrating!
The look could have been better; everything is washed out with white, Today has always been a lighter uplifting, Vibrant show filled with laughter...your site does not reflect that.
I don't like it- the old site was easy to navigate, this one does not focus on news -I view it a wrok and the videos are not accessible so now it seems I can't eaven read any of the stories!
I HATE the new site!  It looks too cluttered...looks too much like the MSN website.  The old site was more friendly, warm, and inviting.  The old site has been loading REALLY slow for me today.  I used to be on your site everyday, but I'm annoyed by this new site.
