The Today Show and I are almost exactly the same age and I have been watching it most of my life.  Without a doubt, Ann is one of the best people they have ever had on the show.  Not only is she very accomplished at what she does, but it comes through so clearly that she is a genuinely wonderful person as well.

Dear Ann,
First of all Happy Birthday!  I also want to say how much I enjoyed your report from the South Pole!  My grandfather lead one of the first overland trips to the South Pole.  His name was Army Major Antero Havola.  The date was January 11,1961.  It was great to see you there and the work they are doing. It was a great reminder to me about what an undertaking and amazing thing he did such a long time ago.

Like the lovely video tribute said (was it Dr. Nancy?) you found your voice in your 40s and now in your 50s you continue to use it passionately and to uncover injustices around the world.  I think you are an amazing woman, beautiful inside and out and the kind of person I aspire to be.
Having recently had my 40th birthday and gone to Italy to celebrate -- all alone I hope that I have finally found my voice and will continue to use it and to move about in the world.  This won't make sense because you don't know me but with physical limitations -- it was a big deal.

Happy Birtday Ann:  You are truly a role model for all young women to follow.  I feel as if I know you...I am your elder but still in the work world.  I agree with your statements this a.m. (11/19/07), "a lady in her 50's has everything to look forward to."  I have just celebrated my 60th and changed jobs (not careers)last year.  I feel as if I have more confidence (and wisdom) and, that is what won the new job for me.
