Who Are The Munsters?

Well, the suspense is over, and the TODAY team is dressed as The Munsters -- Matt as Herman, Meredith as Lily, Al as Grandpa, Natalie as Eddie, Hoda as Marilyn and Tiki as Spot (the dragon). WATCH VIDEO

For those of you that are either too young or didn't have the same misspent youth that I did (watching reruns of old TV shows), you may be wondering who The Munsters are. Here's a little background to get you up to speed:

* Aired from 1964-66 (70 episodes)

* The opening credits of the show -- which we spoofed this morning -- was itself a spoof of "The Donna Reed Show"

* Herman (played by Fred Gwynne) is 150 years old and works as a gravedigger for Gateman, Goodbury and Graves Funeral Parlor -- he stands 7-foot-6 and weighs 380 pounds

* Lily (Yvonne De Carlo) has been married to Herman for 100 years; her maiden name is Dracula

* Grandpa (Al Lewis) is a mad scientist who can transform himself into a bat or a wolf

* Eddie (Butch Patrick) is a boy-werewolf who sleeps in a coffin

* Marilyn (Beverly Owen and Pat Priest) is Lily's niece and was meant to be a copy of Marilyn Monroe

* Spot is a fire-breathing dragon who lives under the staircase

I'd love to see a still shot of Matt in his costume next to Ted Danson.  He looks a lot like him.
The background music drowns out the speakers voices - please somebody check
I think the cast did a wonderful job playing as the monsters, when i was small me and my twin sister use to watch that show all the time. You all out done yourselves. I really enjy watching you all today. Keep up the good work.
You really should have visited the Munster Mansion in Waxahachie Texas to be the munsters! Maybe next year. The place is fantastic!
"the munsters never looked so good -- and Hoda was a great Marilyn.
What a great Halloween Show - all the stories were great and entertaining. Kudos for bringing a little light-heart fun back to the airwaves just when we need it.
Love the Monsters Theme. Matt always pulls off great costumes [every year] so well.  Never going to forget You as Jennifer Lopez, Matt!
But Honors go to Tiki, having Him on the show has been a great addition. He brings just the right balance of humor and sensitivity every time He is on Camera, as "Spot" the Dragon or just as Tiki!
We love Him !
Natalie was hot as Eddie. Dang, that girl can even make a boy look sexy!
I missed the show this morning, but thanks to advanced technology, I was able to see the clip of Munsters. Wow!! I thought that was a great idea!! They all looked great and acted it out well too. What an awesome job. Keep up the good work!!
what a fabulous idea and everyone was perfect for their respective roles. i love the today show and wait anxiously each year to see the creativity. kudos to the production staff on a great set, costumes, etc.
It was so much fun waiting til 8am to see what the costumes and theme would be this year. I loved The Munsters and I think it was an excellent choice. Best costume went to Tiki! And poor Ann in the magic ball, her costume is lots of layers. Good job this year , also it was a great  set design too! Kudos to everyone involved!
Kudos to all of you! I was thinking you'll be doing the Adams family but this is better. Meredith got the most screen time--I loved it. Wish Ann was there... :)
BRAVO! I think the cast should appear in a Munster movie!!! Natalie was a very adorable Eddy!
As soon as I heard the Munsters theme song and saw Meredith dressed as Lily, I knew I was in for a 'treat'!  The set, the costumes, and the enthusiasm of all involved was fantastic!!! I still can't get over it.  Amazing job to EVERYONE!!!  Matt, Meredith, & crew are simply the best!
FANTASTIC!!! Loved the costumes and set design. I always watched the Munsters and preferred it to the Adams Family.
Oh Al was fantastic!  Also Natalie!!!  The crew did the BEST job ever.
And what about Al? He did a terrific Grandpa Munster, with very recognizable imitation of Al Lewis! You were all fantastic!!
Who's the composer of the Munsters theme song played on the Today Show this morning? I love this version and would like purchase or download a copy from yahoo jukebox.

Thanks
Fantastic - what a great homage to a really wonderful old show! Thanks for the info about the opening being a spoof of the Donna Reed Show - I didn't know that and I remember both shows! Congrats on another superb job! Looking forward to the show next Monday - Ann and Matt - stay warm and Al - well, you're always cool and Meredith - we know you will be wonderful as always.
I liked the costumes but did not like the inuendos about the "big feet".  Come on gang...not appropriate or appreciated.
I love the Munsters. I've always prefer them to the Addams family
Due to school-didn't get a chance to watch the show this morning. I always like your Halloween antics. Every year you outdo yourselves. Glad the computer age is upon us and I could catch you tonight. I loved "The Munsters" and you all did a great job. Congrats to all your make-up and costumers-you all looked fantastic. Thanks again for another fun Halloween!!
my daghter has been hearing the Addams family songs (original theme and the Hammer version) on the radio the last few days and has asked the same question. I've been  planning to show her pics online and maybe see if we can check out the movie at the library.
I have to say in ALL my years checking out the Halloween cast, this by far was the BEST!  I loved that they all pulled together for 1 theme. It was tops! Keep up the great ideas!
Your costumes were just great. I remember watching the Munster's reruns and I must say, you looked just terrific.  I think I liked you guys better than the original cast.
Wow! You guys out did yourselves again. Highlight of my Halloween morning. Kudos to the people behind the scenes. Terrific job!
I thought that the Munsters was a great idea and I hope that in the future that you consider a similar concept in that you pick a theme or an idea that everyone can be involved in the "Today Show" as I am a regular viewer.. Was sorry that Ann Curry could not be there in person but the Crystal Ball was a good idea to include her in that way.  Great job.
You guys looked awesome! Al, you made a great "Grandpa"! I loved the Munster reruns when I was a kid and this was a great treat to bring back the memories!
Great job to all. I loved that show back then .I think Matt did a Great job as Herman
WHAT'S THE MATTER EARL, SMALL FEET?
The costumes were great, but I must agree about the "big feet" comment.  Ann did not need to go there.  Very unprofessional and inappropriate.
What would you guys do if, God forbid, a terrible tragedy were to happen while your so called "news" anchors were all dressed up as the Munsters? Isn't the Today show part of the NBC News division? How do you expect anyone to take you guys seriously with this stuff? I love Halloween and I can see your hosts doing a segment or two in costume but not the whole show. PLEASE, you are supposed to be journalists.
Hi - I love the munsters - you dont have comments available on your real stories??? Maybe I just cant find them - but here goes - YOU LOST ME TODAY - with the college student jerk - I just changed the channel - HE DESERVED IT!!! You get what you ask for and he was asking for it
I think the costumes were great. This year was the best ever! The Today Show outdid itself. Everyone looked exactly like who they were supposed to be. Great job!
What a great ensemble you made! It was fun to see everyone in costume with an overall theme. And yes, I remember "The Munsters" vividly!
I watch every morning and have for over 10 years... You make my day, TODAY, and every day.. this was the best Halloween costume show every!  Keep up the good work.
I had been waiting for Holloween to see you guys dressed up, and that morning, I forgot and didn't even turn on the TV before I went to work, I regret not doing that! Actually, I can't believe I did that! I always put the show on before I go to work, I guess I will have to wait till next year, but you guys look great, though it still does not compare to dressing like J-Lo!
Great Halloween costumes!  I have to say that Natalie was my favorite.  When she walked out looking like "Eddie Munster", I laughed so hard that I had to reapply my eyeliner before leaving for work! Good job this year!
