Meeting the Jersey Boys

Without offending anyone, I have to ask the question: can anyone under 40 name five songs by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons?

If you answer no, then I hope you were able to see the profile we ran on the show this morning. WATCH VIDEO

Because the truth is, Frankie and the boys have a catalog of music that blows your mind away. "Sherrie"... "Big Girls Don't Cry"... "Walk Like a Man"...

While those aren't songs that I was spinning on my record player at age 12, they are special to me just the same. It's been said that music at its best touches the soul, and for me, this music does because it brings back some of my sweetest childhood memories.

It seems like yesterday that I was sitting in the backseat of the family station wagon, squished between my sisters, listening to the local AM station in Wilmington, Delaware, and hearing my mother singing along to the songs.

There were the Neils (Sedaka and Diamond). There was Barry Manilow. But the king, the one that had us all aiming for our best falsetto, was Frankie Valli. Those were songs that brought a smile to our mom's face and made us all feel happy.

It's the treat of working here that occasionally we get to meet the people behind the music of our lives. Recently, I produced this profile piece and met the legend in person, along with the genius who wrote much of the music, Bob Gaudio.

You couldn't meet two nicer men. And in this age of dollars and cents, it's remarkable that they continue to be partners after 50 years together, sharing all their profits without a contract -- based on nothing more than a handshake.

Who Loves You? (MY personal favorite of their songs) I do.

Loved this piece...Love the music!!!! Thank you for showing this.  Frankie and Jersey's Boys are really back in a BIG way !!!
It is the music that I still play.  The Beatles were the most innovative, the Beachboys knew my moods, and the nobody could play raw rock like the Doors. But the music that made me feel the best month after month and year after year--the best sound, the best harmony and the perfect falsetto was and is Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons!
I still and always will love their music. It has made memories in every decade of my life. I hope someday soon to come to NY and see Jersey Boys on Broadway
Terrific video segment and a wonderful blog post reflecting how the music of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons has touched you!

The Four Seasons' music has taken so many of us on the greatest ride for the last 45 years! Thank you to the original Jersey Boys!
when i was a kid i used to get beat up by Beatles fans on a reguler basis.Now,45 years later,I finally have my day in court!
Thank you for doing this segment. From an early age the Four Seasons were it for me. The British thing in my mind never happened and I would change radio stations if a Beatle song came on. I still do it to this day. The Sound of the Season's could not be matched, the background, harmony ,the story each song told, nothing else came close for me. It is a shame it took Jersey Boys to boot everyone in the butt about the greatest group ever. The music of Frankie Valli and the Four Season's will live on long after we are all gone. That said, I just want to thank Frankie & Bob & all of the other Season's for years of great memories and music
I will never forget my first Sweet 16 invitation where we were taken by trolly to the Latin Casino in New Jersey to see The Letterman and, headlining, The Four Seasons. We had front row seats and it was and still is the most memorable concert I have ever attended! Seeing Jersey Boys in NY two weeks ago came a close second!
Seeing the "Jersey Boys" on Broadway brought back so many memories.  I have never seen so much audience participation.  Wonderful song and story!
