Countdown to Springsteen: TODAY Favorites

Posted: Thursday, September 27, 2007 8:30 AM by Dan Fleschner
Filed Under:

We're just one day away from Bruce Springsteen's appearance on TODAY, and everyone here is abuzz with anticipation to hear some of his and the E Street Band's new material as well as two classic songs.

With that in mind, I asked some of the TODAY staff's biggest Bruce fans to share their top five songs and favorite Bruce memories. I invite you to scroll through our lists and post yours as well in the comments section below.

Take a look:

Mel Evans/AP
Bruce and the band warmed up for the upcoming tour and appearance
on TODAY with the first of two rehearsal shows at the Paramount
Theater in Asbury Park on Monday.

Dan Fleschner -- Your Loyal Scribe (and TODAY producer)

Top five songs (I get to list 10, because I make the rules):
Incident on 57th Street
Thunder Road
Backstreets
This Hard Land
Land of Hope and Dreams
Roulette
My Love Will Not Let You Down
Point Blank
Stolen Car
Downbound Train

Favorite Bruce memory:
I'll be brief, because there are some great stories from my colleagues below. But my favorites begin with my first Bruce show, August 1, 1999, at the Meadowlands in New Jersey. I went with my sister, Andrea, who was about four months pregnant with her first child. Seeing Bruce for the first time was a borderline religious experience. Opened with "Backstreets" and closed with "Land of Hope and Dreams," two of my favorite songs of all time.

Two other quick memories that come to mind -- seeing Bruce and Eddie Vedder perform three songs together on the "Vote For Change" tour in October 2004 was incredible, especially "Betterman" (even though Bruce didn't seem to know the words that well); and Bruce and Bob Dylan hacking their way through "Highway 61 Revisited" at the finale of the Rising tour at Shea Stadium in October 2003.

Erin Reynolds -- TODAY production manager

Top five songs:
Loose Ends
For You
She's the One
The Ties That Bind
Out in the Street

Favorite Bruce memory:
It was less than two months after 9/11, and my father was still grieving the loss of his best friend, who had passed away that day. After hearing that Bruce may be showing up at a Parkinson's Disease charity event, my father and I took a road trip to "Tradewinds," a popular Jersey Shore hangout.

We had already spent a few unsuccessful nights at the Stone Pony, staring at the door, anxiously waiting for Bruce to walk in...and it never happened.

So why would this night be any different? After hours of listening to band after band, no Bruce. Then suddenly, he just walked onto the stage, grabbed a guitar and starting playing...and playing. It felt like forever.

Just as he was getting ready to play his last song, he said, "I would like to dedicate this song to Gerry Nevins, a firefighter from FDNY's Rescue 1, who is no longer with us." He then busted into his own version of "Twist and Shout." Apparently, my father had caught him as he walked in and asked him for the favor. He didn't have to honor it, but he did it. It was a moment my father and I will never forget.

Tammy Fine -- TODAY producer

Top five songs:
The River
Hungry Heart
Streets of Philadelphia
Thunder Road
Secret Garden

Favorite Bruce memory:
I am not sure you know that asking this question would open you up to the ridiculous opportunity you presented me with: waxing poetic on one of my all-time favorite musicians. You see, I hate music. Well, hate may be a little strong, but when asked to do a profile of Led Zeppelin, I asked, Who? To me, music is two groups: Bruce and the E Street Band and U2. Everything is is noise.

So when, a few years ago, my bosses asked if I wanted to go to Asbury Park with Matt Lauer and do an interview with Bruce Springsteen at the Stone Pony... Well, if only I could include a .wav file of the scream.

The interview was fun. But, as if to see how much my young heart could take, Matt and Bruce hit it off so well, Bruce invited us back a week later to take a tour of his old and favorite haunts. We went, and the piece is still among the best things I ever did here. I can't believe I was paid for the day.

Bruce Springsteen is the first concert I ever went to, at The Spectrum in Philly. And I still remember sneaking a lighter in so I could add my flicker to the thousands of others when the lights went down.

Antoinette Machiaverna -- TODAY producer

Top five songs:
Thunder Road
Because the Night
Born to Run (particularly the acoustic version on the Chimes of Freedom EP)
Streets of Philadelphia
Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)

Favorite Bruce memory:
As a student of journalism, I knew it was something momentous when Bruce Springsteen appeared simultaneously on the covers of Time and Newsweek on October 27, 1975. I saved the magazines, which survived many moves and my kids without getting a tear or a wrinkle.

I never dreamt that 27 years later, I'd be working for TODAY and be assigned to the Bruce Springsteen Live From Asbury Park show. I thought to myself, I'm going to get his autograph on at least one of those magazines and frame them. How cool is that!

The staff was leaving right after the show the day before the concert. I had several segments on that day and in my rush to pack, I simply forgot the magazines. I thought I'd missed a golden opportunity that probably would never come my way again. But before I left the office to get on the bus, I checked my mailbox for something to read...and in my mailbox was the latest issue of Time. The cover story: Bruce Springsteen and The Rising. It was a gift, and I took it as a sign that there were greater powers at work. I was given a second chance and vowed to get it autographed.

We got to Asbury Park, attended a private rehearsal, and as soon as it was finished, as unprofessional as it was, I jumped on stage and asked Bruce to sign the Time magazine. Today, that magazine is framed, proudly flanked by the 1975 magazines on either side. It's one of my most prized possessions, and it proves not only Bruce Springsteen's longevity and survival, but mine, too!

P.S. The 1975 Newsweek story was written by Maureen Orth, Tim Russert's wife...and one of the reporters was TODAY Travel Editor Peter Greenberg. Small world!

Sarah Clagett -- TODAY producer

Favorite songs:
Glory Days
Born to Run
The Rising

Favorite Bruce memory:
I was the researcher when Bruce gave Matt a tour of his old stomping grounds in Asbury Park back in 2002. One of my responsibilities: get the car Bruce would drive Matt around town in. So I rented a Ford Mustang convertible and headed down to the Jersey Shore.

With cameras in the car, Bruce and Matt headed around town. During the interview, I sat in the chase car with producer Tammy Fine, listening to Bruce and Matt's conversation. Towards the end of the day, the car started "dinging" -- like you'd hear if your seat belt isn't on -- or perhaps if your gas level is low.

After a few minutes, I realized that I hadn't filled the gas tank, and the car Bruce was driving was about to run out of fuel. So, of course, I panicked. But luckily, there were still a few reserve gallons. I can't even imagine what would have happened if the car had run out of gas.

After some initial trouble, Sarah eventually got her photo.

At our last stop on Bruce's tour, he performed a few songs off The Rising... I brought my camera, and at the end of the day, I finally got enough nerve to ask Bruce for a picture. Someone snapped a picture of us, and after he snapped the shot, I wanted to make sure I got it. But I soon realized that my camera didn't work -- no picture.

I told Bruce, "It didn't work," and he responded, "That happens to me all the time. Sometimes, it just doesn't work." We both laughed, and needless to say, we took another photo. And I love that he's holding the keys to the Ford Mustang I rented for him that day.

Sara Pines -- TODAY editor and producer

Top five songs:
Thunder Road
Born to Run (particularly the acoustic version on the Chimes of Freedom EP)
Racing in the Street
Nebraska
Chimes of Freedom (Bob Dylan cover)

Favorite Bruce memory:
I would say I've seen The Boss in concert about 15 times, and I have never been disappointed. Even when my friends were hating the Tom Joad tour, I thought he was great. Different, but great.

The best show I ever saw was at the Asbury Park Convention Hall (yes, the same place we did the live Bruce show on TODAY several years ago), but this was an "open rehearsal" for an earlier tour. I would say it was 1997 or 1998.

It was 2000 dedicated Bruce fans who waited out on a windy boardwalk in the dark to get into Convention Hall...and IT WAS AMAZING. He may have even peeled the paint from the walls (or maybe the Hall was like that anyway). It just felt like Bruce and the boys were a garage band in the neighborhood, and you were there to hang out with them.

Then, I was back at Convention Hall when TODAY was there and was able to be there for early morning rehearsals as well as the on-air performance. I would say that runs a very close second.

Robin Sherman -- TODAY producer

Top five songs:
Thunder Road
Jungleland
Born to Run
Badlands
Growin' Up

Favorite Bruce memory:
One of my favorite Bruce moments was actually here on TODAY, when we did the show from Asbury Park. I worked on that show, and there were two great things. First, I went to Matt's interview a few weeks earlier that he did with Bruce at the Stone Pony -- nothing more authentic Bruce than that!

Then, the day before the live show, since we were all there getting ready for it, Bruce was practicing at the Convention Center there, and literally gave our staff a full concert. The setting was perfect, though it was brutally hot, but it didn't matter -- we had our own private concert right there in Asbury Park.

Dave Scheier -- TODAY set writer

Top five songs:
Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)
Born to Run
My City of Ruins
Land of Hope and Dreams
Jungleland

Favorite Bruce memory:
My wife and I were lucky enough to have Bruce Springsteen's violinist, Soozie Tyrell, perform at our wedding. We remember jamming with her along with 200 other people...now she performs with the E Street Band and the Seeger Sessions band in front of tens of thousands!

My Bruce encounter -- I usually don't get star-struck, but one time I was at a loss for words. Bruce's wife, Patti Scialfa, was performing on the show a couple years ago, and I asked our audio guys to play his song that's a tribute to her. It's called "Red Headed Woman." The only problem is that the first section of the song is a little racy.

I walked into the audio booth and told the guys to watch out, not realizing until too late that Bruce himself was sitting there in the room. I'm not sure he appreciated being edited. I'll keep my eyes open a little wider next time.

Jen Brown -- MSNBC.com senior producer

Top five songs:
Thunder Road
Human Touch
Candy's Room
Happy
I'm Going Down

Comments on "Thunder Road":
Bruce traditionalists will tell you this song is about a young girl named Mary and her lover looking for their "last chance" out of town. They're wrong. This song is about me when I'm 40. I'm not sure how Bruce pulled this off as I wasn't born when he wrote it.

But who am I to question genius? While the lyrics do suggest a bit of sad desperation in my future life, the good news is, apparently I have a porch. Anyway, there's just something about this song that defines home to this Jersey Girl.

Ryan Osborn -- TODAY Producer

Top five songs:
Jungleland
Drive All Night
Brilliant Disguise
Tunnel of Love
New York City Serenade

Ryan's comments:
Even as a kid, I remember hearing Born to Run and knowing it was somehow different. It was happy, sad, fun and serious all at once.

People feel so passionate about Bruce. Is it the man? Is it his music? Is it his message? I think it is his passion and ambition that one person with a guitar can change the world that brings us all together. It ain't no sin to be glad you're alive.

Here are my attempts to explain why those five songs above mean so much to me:

Jungleland -- I guess it's possible that one day I will listen to the sax solo and feel nothing.

Drive All Night -- I like to joke that it's the only song that I've ever truly loved. "I'd drive all night, just to buy you some shoes"...

Brilliant Disguise -- Is it a break-up or a love song? It is so honest that it doesn't make a difference.

Tunnel of Love -- Every day this whole album seems to make more sense to me.

New York City Serenade -- A great song about the greatest city in the world.

Dan Barbossa -- TODAY associate producer

Top five songs:
Thunder Road
Growin' Up
Because the Night
Jersey Girl
10th Avenue Freeze Out

Favorite Bruce memory:
It was October 2003, and unfortunately, I wasn't at Shea Stadium to see my New York Metropolitans in the World Series. But I was seeing Jersey's own Bruce and the E Street Band. I was kind of far from the stage -- like upper deck -- and Bruce was playing Carlos Beltran (deep center field).

It was a good show, though no "Thunder Road" (Bruce, you owe me), BUT Al Leiter, then a New York Mets pitcher, came on stage for "Rosalita" and they closed the show with "Twist and Shout" with Gary "US" Bonds.

First top-five Springsteen tunes in no particular order:

Thunder Road
Born To Run
For You
Johnny 99
Spirit In The Night

Greatest Springsteen Memory:

First time I saw Bruce was at the Meadowlands in New Jersey. I was so excited. I had moved from Detroit to Edison (of all places) with my rock 'n' roll band so we could be closer to the big city. I was dating a Jersey girl at the time. We bought tickets and got there early for the pre-show party in the parking lot. Everyone was blasting Springsteen tunes from there open cars. At the time I was really into "The River," in particularly, the song "Sherry Darling". We had seen previous set lists that were floating around and knew he wasn't playing it. We were walking around, having a great time, and I had that song in my head all day. Finally the show starts. The lights go out, and Springsteen walks onto the stage, by himself with this accoustic guitar, without the band, and goes into Sherry Darling. It was amazing. And it was the only show on the Human Touch/Lucky Town tour that he played Sharry Darling!

My favorite Bruce Springteen song is 'Thunder Road' and my husband's is '10th Avenue Freeze Out'. I'm so upset that I'm going to miss seeing Bruce in Philadelphia next month. I can't attend because I'll be participating in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day (60 mile) Breast Cancer Walk in Philadelphia from 10/5-7/07. Any other weekend would have been perfect! Oh well.. I'll be sure to have some of his songs on my iPod to listen to after I return from my 1st day's journey. Maybe Bruce could stop by one of our cheering sections. That would be some crowd! It's noted on the website - www.the3day.org. Enjoy the concert!

There are so many Bruce memories.  Starting with Born to Run tour in Boston, and seeing all tours since...  My husband I started dating and I introduced him to Bruce by letting him borrow my Born to Run 8-track...he was hooked...engaged when Darkness came out, married when the River came out. Turned 30 during Tunnel of Love, now I'm turning 50 this year when I see him on November 18 in Boston. Just great, great memories...
I too can't pick just 5 songs:  I first saw Springsteen at the Main Point in Ardmore in 1972 and the first Tour 1975 Born to Run - haven't missed a concert yet!

Favorite Songs -
Incident
My Hometown
Jersey Girl
Mary's Place
Jungleland
Thunder Road
Backstreets
Asbury Park

Best memory of Bruce - December 1980.  Saw Bruce at Spectrum entire week had tickets to all shows - he was here 5 or 6 days straight.  My birthday week  -also the week Lennon was murdered.  Remember leaving the concert after watching Bruce play four hours from the 10th row on such a high to such a devastation as everyone was screaming John Lennon was shot and killed.  Next nite Bruce opened with a Tribute to Lennon - never will forget it!

Also remember Bruce in 1972 with the long hair/earring and sooooo young
TO Dan Fleschner -- Your Loyal Scribe (and TODAY producer)

What were you on at your first Bruce show, as I follow him arounf d the country and study him reloiously and I have never seen or heard of any show that he opened with Backstreets?? Maybe you only showed up for the encores and that possibly could have been the opening song of the encore, but i don't think I am wrong saying Backstreets was never a show opener unless it was back in 75 when Born To Run first came out. But i do agree it's one of his all time best especially live, but for the today show, his fans already know he is doing two new and two older songs, so since he is doing Radio Knowwhere and The promise Land, that laves 1 of each left, but i highly doubt it woudl be a slow type song like Backstreets as it is also too long. Rosalita or Badlands would also be great but who knows, I would guess something for New York like either the Rising or more likely Empty Sky like they have been doing at all the rehersals. For the other new one, I would love to hear Terry's Song, that they have not played at the rehersal shows but in my opinion, it's one of the nest songs he has ever written even though it is for a sad reason but about a great friend to him and many others.  have a feeling he may use this for a show closer on tour, or at least it woudl be an appropriate tribute to Terry as he just lost him a couple months ago.
That's just my opinion except for the Backstreets part that i am sure was never the first song!
Top 5 songs
Jersey Girl
Thunderoad
Brilliant Disquise
For You
Badlands (so many more)

Bruuuuuccceee!  Been to many concerts but The Rising Concert in the Meadowlands definately sticks out.  It all started one morning when my girlfriend and I went to work to buy July 2003 Meadowland tickets.  We go to work because the computers are fast.  We all know that Bruce tickets sell out in 3 mins flat!  We were nervous that we wouldn't get the tickets and excited at the same time. Here comes 10am, we feverishly type 6 tickets at Best Available and than we wait, than all of the sudden the tickets come up for Pit and row 5 from the stage!!!!  Bad news.. we get a message that our requests didn't go thru.. Good News.. 5 days later we get our original Pit and Row 5 tickets in the mail!!!!!!!!!  You've never seen us so happy as were my sister, bro in law and friends (because they were coming with me).  We are tailgating now and only Bruce Springsteen and Eagle fans know how to tailgate properly.  Walking into the stadium to my Row 5 seats with "my crew". My girlfriend is wearing a leapord cowboy hat into the concert and who do you think asked to wear it while he was singing "Out in the Streets"!!!  BRRUUUCCEE took her hat, wore it and gave it to Patty to wear!!!  That is my best memory and hoping this Magic tour holds that same excitement.
A list of songs, even Bruce's songs, do not explain what is great about this man - he is first, a gentleman, a caring man who, as his time and situations allow, offer service (music) to benefit others.  When I had my firm's office in Shrewsbury, NJ, I was in Bruce's neighborhood and had the pleasure of meeting him as he shopped in the area.  Always polite and ready to smile.  His music is timeless and will be around long after our generation is only history.  I know I will be enjoying new music from Bruce and the E Street Band for many years to come.
Thank you, Bruce
Lindy James, now in Georgia
What a hard task!  1) Meeting Across the River is by far, my favorite song of all and to finally hear it in concert at MSG in 2000 was amazing! 2) Born to Run--how can it not be in the group?  3) Night---how can you not enjoy this one after a bad day at work?  4) Rosalita--always reminds me of great times and it always gets people dancing at the shows, 5)Because the Night.  And, honorable mention, Jersey Girl, not in the top five since it was originally not by Bruce buy how can a Jersey Girl not love this one.
Favorite Bruce Memory:  December 1980--the Spectrum in Philly, the night after John Lennon was killed---what a show and what an experience!
My favorite memory is when we saw him in Oct 1992. A bunch of us went including my best friend Mindy. Her favorite song was "She's the One". Mindy was killed in a snowmoblie accident January 1993. Her husband put "She's The One" on her marker. Whenever we go see Bruce I know she is there rockin right along side me!

I have so many great memories of seeing Bruce Live. But the one that hit home was his Devil's and Dust Accoustic Tour in 2005. I has tickets for the Continental Arena in New Jersey. The tickets were for the day I burried my Mother. She passed very suddenly. It took some convincing for me to go, but all my friend and family pushed me into it.Everyone told me that my Mom would want me to go. She also loved Bruce.. I went with my broken heart. It was bitter sweet. But hearing his music I beleive helped me throught the night. And I know my Mom was looking down on me... It's a time I will never forget.. Thanks Bruce..
5 songs:
 Something In The Night
  Two Hearts
   The Ties That Bind
    Incident on 57th Street
     She's The One
Best memory was at Boston Garden when Peter Wolf of The J.Geils Band joined Bruce on stage for the old Standells classic "Dirty Water".  Best show I've ever seen.  I've seen  Bruce about 10 times (got tix for this one too!!!) and he's been better than anyone else 10 times runnin!!!  One other performance of note was at the Providence Rhode Island civic center in 1980 4 days after John Lennon was killed and he dedicated The Promised Land to John.

Top Five depends on what mood I'm in, since there are so many songs perfect for different situations, but more often than not, I'll say these...

1) Thunder Road
2) Growin' Up
3) New York City Serenade
4) Tunnel Of Love
5) Promised Land
Born to run
I'm on fire
Radio Nowhere
Thunder Road
Atlantic City

The one and only so-called personal memory when The Boss played in Budapest, Hungary as a member of the Amnesty International Tour back in '87.
I hope I'll see him soon in Hungary again!
Man, it is so hard to name a top 5, there are so many good ones, but I'll give it a shot.

1. Thunder Road
2. Happy- My wife and I took our first dance to this at our wedding.
3. Brilliant Disguise
4. The Promised Land
5. The Ties That Bind

Having seen Bruce in concert now 34 times, you could say he is by far my favorite musician/singer/songwriter. I believe he is by far the greatest live performer/songwriter of our time. I am ready for #'s 35 and 36 in the coming weeks, as the Magic Tour gets underway.
My greatest memory has to be October 6th, 2002 at the Wachovia Center in Philly. I scored GA tickets and was lucky enough to get in the pit for the show and I was leaning on the stage for the entire show in front of Little Steven. My dream one day is to meet Bruce and be able to tell him how much his music has meant to me.
1. Dancing in the Dark
2. Secret Garden
3. Glory Days
4. Human Touch
5. The Rising
But I really love all of Bruce's music and I have ever since I was introduced to Bruce's music by an ex-boyfriend many years ago... I'm looking forward to adding to my collection! Keep us going Bruce!! Valerie
Almost 32 years since my first "Bruce" show on 12/17/75 at a 3k Auditorium called Kleinhans Music Hall in Buffalo,NY!

But, my favorite moment of all of the following years and all of the shows I've seen still remains Rochester, NY Darkness Tour on 8/9/78. This was the day before the famous Summertime Bruce show in Cleveland and in many original fans opinions the most brilliant of all tours.

I had 3rd row seats and was sitting on the aisle. The band goes into Rosalita and Bruce jumps down into my aisle and runs up and down the aisle just jamming on his black Fender Telecaster. Clarence soon joins him and they stop right next to me! Clarence and Bruce are face to face, schmoozing and jamming right next to me! Got to touch the man and the Fender. That was a concert that remains so vivid in my mind these 29 years later.

There were so many more "great" moments but that Darkness show just topped them all! Doesn't seem right that I'm a PIT virgin...lol.
Top 5 songs:
Incident on 57th Street
Jungleland
Racing in the Street
Frankie
The Promise

Top 2 Bruce moments:
1. Getting a photo of Bruce's bald spot on top of his head as the late Terry McGovern pushed him into the limo outside the Grand Hotel in Stockholm Sweden on 6/14/92.

2. First rehersal concert prior to the reunion tour: Convention Hall, Asbury Park, NJ - March 18, 1999.  I was moved....

Impossible to pick just five, so I'll just list the five that come to mind first:

Thunder Road
Promised Land
The Price You Pay
Racing In The Streets
The Fever

Favorite Bruce memory? Easy. The first time I saw him play, Dec. 16, 1978 at Winterland in San Francisco, on the "Darkness" tour. It was Winterland's last month as a concert venue, and Bill Graham had lined up an incredible schedule of shows to close the place down. Bruce played two nights. The first was broadcast live on KSAN (and is now a widely distributed bootleg). I went the second night, when Bruce opened with "Good Rockin' Tonight" and closed with "Quarter to Three." Since it was the holiday season, of course they played "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town," with Clarence dressed in a Santa hat and beard.
I´ve seen Bruce and Bands for over sixteen times.
Every concert in my opinion was horrible good.
I know I can´t choose them all , so I choose the best selection : 1) Of course at  1) Born to run (best song ever made) 2) The klansman (a pitty that he played it not many times in concert) 3) Point Blank (the piano)  4) Lost in the Flood (great lirics) 5)Thunder Road (Nebraska-version)
30 November i´ll be there (Arnhem -Holland)
I always remember the 1974 shows at the Joint in the Woods in Parsippany and the Capital Theater in Passaic. Bruce is great in the arena, but nothing beats the smaller places.
seeing bruce is like finding religon!
let him save you brother!
Favorite song - ALL

Favorite Bruce memory  - Fall 2002.  Red Bank NJ.  Starbucks.  I don't drink coffee but my wife does.  She ordered her drink and then she went in to the bathroom.  A kid bumped in to me from behind while I waited for her to return.   I turned around and it was Bruce and his son.  I was speechless.  Could not utter a word.  Prior to that experience, if you asked what would I have done if I met Bruce I would have told you a million things I would have said.  Finally when my wife exited the rest room I motioned to her with my hands to hurry up and come stand by me... (from the back if Bruce was looking at me I must have looked like I was going through  a fit, but in my mind I was cool as ever).  My wife rushed up, said: "What?!"  I said: "Look it is Bruce", She said: "Where", I said: "right behind me"....  I turned and with all my might said to Bruce: "She has something to say to you".  She said hello and as cool as a cucumber they chatted b/c someone in her family is a distant relative to his mom…  That was it...  I was speechless, totally star-struck. I stood their like a knucklehead holding her jacket and scarf while she and Bruce talked.  He did not even know I was there…  so much for my brush with a legend....

After that in an instant he and his son were gone after the kid got his brownie...  One more thing, when the boy received the brownie from the waitress he thanked the waitress and then he thanked his dad by saying:  "Thank you sir”.  I was impressed, as my teenagers would have walked out with not only the brownie but also the change!
Bruce could sing the Yellow Pages & I would pay to see it.
I couldn't pick a top 5 ,probably the last 5 I listened to!

Favourite memory of Bruce is trying for weeks to get tickets & finally managing to get two 48 Hrs before the show at Earls Court London (Rising Toour),cue a mad dash to get time off work & drive to London.

Have my tickets booked for the show on the 19th December at London o2 Arena.

Hopefully he won't be singing the Yellow pages that night, but than again I would probably go anyway!!

Tougher Than The Rest

Seeing Bruce 5 feet away at Shea Stadium in a golf cart followed by the rest of the band members, the last leg of the Rising Tour has been one of my most memorable moments!! Thank you Daddy!
Listing just 5 Bruce songs is a tough job,but here goes. I have to include Badlands,Thunder Road,She's The One,Drive All Night and Tougher Then The Rest, but there are hundreds of more. My favorite Bruce moment? The first time I saw him in 1979,I think it was March,on his Darkness tour,in Evansville,Indiana. It was the most spiritual musical experience I've ever had.I've seen him about 15 times since and will never get tired of him.Long live E street!
The first time I saw Bruce in Frankfurt Germany at the age of 19 on April 14, 1981 I was hooked - I sat in the 11th row dead centre and manage to take 15 great photos. Soon, on October 14th I will be seeing my 7th show - I can't wait.
I've seen Bruce & the Band several times over the years, but my favorite concert was at the Rosemont Horizon in suburban Chicago in 1988.  I was about 4 months pregnant and my sister & I had a hell of a time getting tickets.  We finally did...3rd row, back of stage.  Well, as every Bruce fan knows, the band always turns around and plays to the people in back, which was a wonderful treat since we were 3rd row.  And when they were facing front, I had the perfect view of his cute little butt.   Best seats I ever had!!!  Oh, and the concert was great too, of course!
Sadly, I have never seen him in concert...But my favorite memory is the night he came on the last "Late Night with David Letterman" on NBC...He sang "Glory Days" and it was AWESOME!!!!

Streets of Philadelphia

My most favorite song of Bruce Springsteen is "Land of hope and dream". Listen to his music since I was still lived in Taiwan and dream about attending his concert since then. Finally, saw him live in Birmingham, Alabama in 2003. He is simply the best. Most definately will like to see him again and again.
Been a fan since my first concert at Providence College in 1977 and have been to close to 30 shows since and seen every tour.  Too many favorite songs to name, although Jungleland puts me right back to that night at PC, which was a special night.  I have two favorite memories .... catching Bruce on stage with the Beaver Brown Band at Big Man's West in Red Back back in 1983 and meeting him one rainy Thursday night at the Stone Pony with an old friend from high school.
My favorite moment was seeing Springsteen in August 1975 at the botom line in NYC.  WNEW was there putting the concert on the air live.  It was my last time seeing them play in a small venue.
My favorite possession is a jacket from The Stone Pony!
i Have seen Bruce a few times, the first in I think 1975 in Ottawa. He was promoting "Born to Run".It was raw and live. The best for sure, with original band members, the gang. Later in Calgary a few years ago wih the Rising tour.Hard to pick top five, as I have several favorites.

Born to Run
Back Streets
Promised land
The River
Out in the Street

Favorite Bruce Songs;

10th Avenue Freeze Out

Top 5:
"Price You Pay" (Which I've never heard live!!)
"Badlands" (Ain't no sin to be glad you're alive!)
"My City Of Ruins" (So sad, so poignant)
"The Fever" (Oh.Baby.)
"Darkness on The Edge of Town" (It's like a combination of pity, resignation, and yet, a refusal to give up.)

Fave Bruce memory: On "The Rising Tour", FedEx Field in Landover, MD, Bruce had just finished playing "Paradise", the stage was completely dark, the crowd was virtualy silent, and then...you hear Soozie play the first two notes of "JungleLand", and the whole stadium just erupted in cheers of recognition. Oh my god, I get chills just reliving that moment. The best part? This was the first Bruce show for my two children, and even THEY understood how very cool that moment was. I can't wait for Philly!! PLEASE PLAY "PRICE YOU PAY", BRUCE!!!!
5 Best Bruce Songs (this is a toughie):
Born to Run
Thunder Road
Glory Days
Dancing in the Dark
Jungleland

I have a children's cd for my son that features a song sung  by Bruce Springsteen.  It is his favorite song!  Even my 3 year old loves Bruce...   I used to rock my son to sleep to this cd so I guess it is one of the best memories a mother could ever have - with or without Bruce.  I have never seen Bruce Springsteen in concert (I have always lived too far from any venues until recently) but I can't wait to see him one day and take my son.
Top 5 (almost impossible to choose!)

Incident on 57th St.
She's the One
Candy's Room
Ramrod
The River

Favorite memory is going to my first Bruce concert in January, 1985, age 15.  I haven't missed a show in North Carolina since...please come back!!!!
