Bruce Springsteen is Coming!

Bruce SpringsteenWhen word leaked a couple weeks ago around here that Bruce Springsteen might be coming to TODAY, the news spread through the halls amazingly quickly. Almost immediately, I had people -- who don't even work on the show -- calling to ask me if it was true.

Well, today we can say that it's indeed true. September 28, on the plaza, Bruce and the E Street Band will be here. That's right, not Bruce by himself, not Bruce and the Sessions Band...but Bruce (the Boss, Scooter), Miami Steve, the Great Nils Lofgren, the Tennessee Terror, the Professor, Phantom Danny, Mighty Max, Patti, and of course, the Big Man. WATCH VIDEO

Gives me chills just thinking about it. As I've mentioned in this space before, I'm a big Bruce fan.

The last time we saw Bruce and the band on a full-scale tour, it was a rainy October night four years ago at Shea Stadium. After they completed a performance of "Blood Brothers" and walked off the stage, many of us wondered if we'd see everyone together again for another tour -- especially with the Big Man seemingly ailing. But now, at age 65, the oldest member of the band is apparently ready to break out his tenor sax for another run.

This is shaping up to be a great year for Bruce fans. A new album, a tour, and it all gets going right here on TODAY. I can't wait.

O.K.  This would be the trifecta of a lifetime!!
See the Today Show Live
See Bruce Springsteen
Meet Matt, Al, Meredith, & Ann

I'm from the Atlanta area and the owner of
Kimberly's Therapeutic Massage.
I was sooo excited with the Huge Musical Announcement!
I've already marked my calendar to be on the Plaza on Sept. 28.
I am proposing free massages to the Today Show staff for a close view of the Boss and his entourage.
I would be perfectly happy in a chair next to Matt!!
Would love to meet you all in September!!!!
Kimberly
Yes indeed, this is another great Bruce year for us huge Bruce fans! Fan for 25+ years here! Can hardly wait for the tour to start!  Love the new "Radio Nowhere" tune!  Will there be any contests here to win a close up view of the concert similar to the Today Show Asbury Park's "Rising" show?  PICK ME!  PICK ME!  PLEEEEASE!
instead of making for an unpleasant and unsafe situation for fans, hey NBC,do the right thing and have this in Central Park!
This is so great, myself and my daughter and daughter-in law will be in New York celebrating our middlestone
bithdays, Bruce is a wonderful ending to our week, since he crosses all generations with his music!
We will be there, hopefully close to the front!!
I wish I could come.  Why don't you all have a contest for us rabid fans!
September 28 will be INSANE anywhere near the area of the NBC Today studios! Any ground rules yet in place on restrictions, or lack of, for being able to attend the appearance? This is just way too exciting!
I LOVE BRUCE and the E STREET BAND!!!
Can't wait to see them on the Plaza!! WOW
My longtime friend (and fellow bruce fanatic) and I were planning a get together around the first week in October, but for some strange reason, we have decided to reschedule for the last weekend in September in NYC........We will be rockin with the best of them. Woo Hoo!!!!!
I'd like to get excited, but Bruce and the E-streeters never come to mid-sized cities (Tucson, in my case).  Guess I'll wait for the DVD.  Even better, Bruce, how about releasing some more of the dozens of professionally recorded shows you have from the 70's and 80's?  Don't make us wait until we're using walkers to get those classic shows officially released!
This is why I watch the Today Show! You guys get the best and that's why you are the best!! Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band LIVE, it does not get any better the that! I wish I could be there but with three kids, work, and a very money - minded hubby, I'm not sure if I can do it. Unless The Today Show could help me out alittle? I'll do anything you need, clean, sweep, give Matt and Meredith  foot rubs? Anything, just let me know! Thanks.
It would be nice if they shot the TODAY show in everybody's home town. Then, we could all see Bruce and The E Street jammers
The only thing worse than Springstten's holier than thou demeanor are his pretentious fans.

I love bruce and the band.
going to 5 maybe 6 shows in europe:-)
watch seeger sessions 9 time last year, but E street band is huge, bigger than rolling stone, U2 and pop queen madonna.
BRUCE ROCKS.......
I love the holier than thou. Made me laugh out loud. Obviously you have never listened to Bruce's lyrics or been to his shows.
Bruce is hack, he was never that good to being with.
BRRRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE!!!!!!!
YET ANOTHER FANTASTIC YEAR FOR THE REAL BRUCE FANS.  I'VE BEEN TO OVER 100 SHOWS SINCE 1974, I HAVE 3 TATOOS ON MY BODY THAT ARE BRUCE RELATED, INCLUDING A TATOO  OF THE COVER OF THE BORN TO RUN ALBUM AND I HAVE OVER  ONE THOUSAND ITEMS IN MY HOME THAT ARE BRUCE RELATED.  I HAVE A WONDERFUL WIFE, TWO GREAT KIDS AND A GREAT LIFE...THE ONLY THING THAT WOULD COMPLETE MY LIFE DREAM WOULD BE TO MEET BRUCE ON SEPTEMBER 28...SEE WHAT YOU CAN DO...I WILL EVEN SHOW THE WORLD MY BODY ART!!!!!!!!!!  EITHER WAY.... ROCK THE WORLD...BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE!!!!!
Not too many poets left in music.  Along with Neil Young and the sporadic Dylan contributions, Bruce can still carry the torch!  Perhaps our erudite friends from IL and NY would prefer some Bay City Rollers slipslop....
I saw "The Boss" in Oakland CA several years ago.  My first concert seeing the "Boss"; look forward to the next concert.  Great Rock Music without all the flashing lights, fog machines, gimmicks!
Hey Mat & Meredith, I have a sad story for you. I missed seeing Bruce at our 40th high school reunion because I was having a root canal. He came on the third night when everybody was at Federici's,a pizza joint we used to go to when we were in high school. I'm still kicking myself for missing my opportunity of a lifetime.
Hey Matt

I hope there is a chair right there next to you on the plaza for me. I was in awe with the announcement!
I already thinking how am I going to get tickets.  Hope he comes our way.
Yep with the band he is a show to see, but leave the political crap at home home L.A. Bruce.  Just be the "Boss" the way you used to be, with the best band around.
My heart stopped beating when I heard the announcement this morning.  I first saw Bruce in 1978 and have been a dedicated fan ever since.  My 14-1/2 year old son has become a dedicated fan as well.  How can we possibly get up front and share this amazing experience of a lifetime together?
has anyone been to one of these concerts?  If so, what time would you realistically have to show up?
Words cannot say what a wonderful, talented, singer, songwriter of our time that Bruce Springsteen really is.
I just don't understand why if you are not a Bruce fan you would waste your time on this site.  Don't you have better things to do?  Maybe you could give your time to charity but there has got to be something you can do. I believe you are either very jeoulous or very, very bored.
Let us Bruce fans have our day!!!!!!!!!
Way to go Bruce we loooovvvveeeee you!!!!!!!!!!!!
It doesn't get any better than Bruce and The E Street Band. These guys put into transcendent music the story of my generation: all the gains and losses, all the lost and found.
I am so happy whenever Bruce and any of the Band are connecting with us, the fans.

Meanwhile i too wish y'all would visit some smaller venues. having moved to West Virginia, no longer in New York, something in our State would have a great impact.
Peace and Blessing to all the Band and especially Patti and Bruce.
That day in late September will be very memorable. This tour will probably be the last time the E-Street Band will do anything together due to their age. In 50 years, when the band (and us) are all gone, Bruce and his band will be remembered as one of Americas greatest musical acts.
So if you are lucky enough to get to the plaza, enjoy it and don't take it for granted. If you have never witnessed a Springsteen show, (I've seen four) this would be a worth while occasion. You will never forget it. He's the greatest Rock and Roll performer ever. This tour is our last chance to see an artist as remarkable as the the Boss. He is the last great icon of Rock and Roll.
Never really moved by his tunes, hate his politics, my cousin Frankie use to play in a garage band w/ him and still owes him $250! Aw, who cares?
Bruce Springsteen is beyond amazing. For the person who says that Bruce is holier then thou and his fans are pretentious it is just the oposite. I have this great Bruce story, there was a fan who meant Bruce and said Bruce "just five minutes I have been a fan for twenty years" and Bruce says, I have given you twenty years and I only get five minutes?" Holier then thou? Not Bruce, he has always admired the everyday man, and calls us his heros..and I say back at ya Bruce! We love you, can't wait to see you and the boys, and Magic..is gonna be GREAT!!
I saw Bruce Springsteen and the EStreet Band in 1984 at the old Cleveland Stadium.  I was 12 years old and I still remember the heart and soul he put into his 4 hour set.  He is an amazingly talented singer/songwriter and it's so exciting he is going to be touring with his cronies.  YES YES YES, I love Bruce and I am soooooo excited he's back!
To John and David, what ya just lookin for a way to spill hatred?
I am 50 yrs old, been a Bruce fan as long as i can remember, I know there is no way I will see this historic event, so you all just enjoy for me...How much of it do you suppose we will see on TV?
Remember: No Retreat, No Surrender!

It's gonna be a beautiful day Bruce coming on Today Show. Well if Matt can help me to get a front seat just to see the " Boss" performing that w'll be my 1st time participating w/audiences.Never go no where. Please Matt can you give that opportunity to see the " Boss " Bru........ce. Thank you
Haven't seen Bruce Springsteen in years, since I lived in Wisconsin years ago. Great to hear that Bruce and the guys are back. Would love to see Bruce but am home-bound. Love ya Bruce!!
I'm on vaccation in New York on september 28th. Later on in Europe I will be at about 5 concerts of Bruce Springsteen in several cities. Would be a great start for me at Rockefeller Plaza. How can I attend the show? Reserved tickets, free entry? How does it work?
I respectfully wish to comment that the music revolution was over a long ago and this is all very boring and sad to watch unfold (yawn).  Old man on stage still trying to live his 20's years.  It was over a long time ago, like in the 80's.  This is 2007.  Enough is enough, greed is obviously the motivator.  Bruce needs money.
Bruce Springsteen, like Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan before him, represents the experience of millions of
Americans who both love this country - the land and the people - and hate the way the promise inherent in both have been co-opted and twisted by the realities of living in these hard and barren times.
I wanna go, day before my birthday, this west coast girl would love to have front row tickets for my birthday
To Suzanne
I too, saw Bruce and the E Street Band at the 1984 concert at the Old Cleveland Stadium and have been a fan ever since. My seat was 4 rows from the top of the stadium but I didn't care - it was an awesome, almost indescribable experience.  I have been fortunate enough to attend 3 of Bruce's concerts since then and can't wait for the next.
The guy and his music simply give me goosebumps yet, all of these years later.  Met him as he was standing next to me in a club in Asbury, he was so gracious and giving of his time.  The very next night at the Stone Pony, he jammed onstage and I was right in front! In a world with very few real "heroes", he is mine for his dedication to his craft, his fans, and giving a damn about our country. Rock on, baby!
His music sucks, he sucks, and he will always suck. Just a dried out has been trying to scrape a little more green together.
I knew as soon as I heard the teaser that it ws Bruce! It was great to see him interviewed by Matt Lauer durning the last tour (who obviously is a fan as well!). Fifteen years ago this week, I stood in line waiting at the Spectrum in Philly for tickets to see my hero for the first time. Not only did I get the tickets, but I also got the phone number of the guy behind me in line. We've been married almost 12 years with 2 kids, seen Bruce 8 times, and can't wait to see him again!
Hi,
Is there any way you guys could tell Bruce that his trip to India is long overdue. Been a huge fan of Bruce since 84  AND IT'S terribly disappointing that India always is not included in his itinerary.
I must have heard all his songs a million times, seen all his DVDs but have never seen him live and you know how frustrating this can be
During my college days in India, we were not very studious and but me and my friends were inspired by Bruce Springsteen's music. We Loved him in our college and even wanted to sing his songs on the stage to impress the girls. I now live in Dubai, UAE which is in Asia and I am going to be in NYC on September 27th evening after a 15hour flight. What a coincidence and I am so happy and I am going to make sure I beat the jetlag and set my alarm to be there at the Today Show at the Plaza. Barti Rajan
I'd love to write about my feelings about Bruce - who I first saw in concert in 1978 - but I have to leave now to get a spot for the concert.  If you pass the plaza during the next few weeks and see a friendly but tired woman of a certain age stop by and say hello.
I, too, was Soooo excited to see Springsteen in Birhimgham, Alabama in December, 2002.  Paid a fortune for tickets...and waited & waited.  Concert started 1 1/2 hours late. He ended the concert WITHOUT singing "Born in the USA".  HOW do you skip your biggest hit in a sold out concert?  I WAS a big Springsteen fan...then I decided he's not "customer oriented" & stopped funding him.
Bruce concerts have been a family event since the early 80's. Now my grown son and 2 young nephews are carrying on the tradition. A road trip to NY on the 28th to see Bruce will be the vacation I could not have plaaned!!!
bruce is great and very talented......i love whatever he sings....probably will never get to see him but will watch the today show when he is on.....
Hi,
Being disabled and using a wheelchair(RE:limited income), and living in northern Idaho, I know I will never get the chance to see Bruce in concert. It has always been my lifelong dream to see him.
But I'll watch it on TV, and feel blessed that he's going to be on, so I can at least hear him sing!!
The screendoor slams and Mary`s dress waves. Like a vision she dances across the floor as the radio plays.
Sorry, just love his lyrics. I can envision them. I saw Bruce at Market Square Arena in Indy during the Born In the USA Tour and even went on a road trip to Ashbury Park N.J. to his bar that he used to perform at, the Stone Pony. Still love the River.
The Boss was never better than at Jazz Fest 06 singing City of Ruin to the locals in attendance.  While I too normally prefer to see him with the E Street Band, this was a moment to remember in New Orleans so early post-Katrina.  While Bruce acknowledged that the song was originally written with parts of Jersey in mind, it touched us deeply in New Orleans, and we hope that we are answering on a daily basis his inspiring call to rise up from our problems.
