Talk Back Today
This week we’ve been treated to an unprecedented look at the British royal brothers – Princes William and Harry. Check out our special coverage HERE. After watching Matt’s interview that aired on Today and Dateline – many of you wrote us to share your own reflections on Princess Diana’s life, her tragic death and your opinion of William and Harry. Here are some of your e-mails:
Mr. Lauer,
I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your interview with William and Harry. Diana was a beautiful woman and mother and I still miss her to this day. She would be very proud of them. SHe did a fantastic job. Her legacy still lives on. They are as normal as normal can be. I usually find most royals stiff and formal they are not. For their position they are calm and relaxed. I taped in interview so I can rewatch it. WELL DONE I will be watching the concert honoring her memory.

Hello Matt,
I watched your interview with William and Harry and I have to admit it was wonderful. As most people I have always been fascinated with Princess Diana, probably because she is just a year younger than myself. So I think it is natural to be as fascinated with her sons. Especially since they have remained so private over these years....which I can't blame them!
It was very refreshing to have this glimpse of them as just themselves. Because they have never really had any one on one exposure before as in interviews, you just use your imagination as to what they are like in person. It was nice to see and hear them in their own words and get a little hint of their true personalities. I think they are quite the characters!!
Thank you for the interview, and you Matt, brought a wonderful personal touch to it and you appeared to be very comfortable around them. It seems that after the initial introduction, they are able to make people feel right at home and forget about the titles/roles that come with them! It leaves me wanting to see more, but am happy with this little bit.
Thank you,
Patty (Wakefield, Massachusetts)
I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed the interview it Princes William and Harry. My mother passed away just a couple hours after Princess Diana. I was only 19 at the time so I can clearly relate to the pain and emptiness that they have experienced throughout the past 10 years. It was very comforting to know that they are going to celebrate her life in the concert and I look forward to watching it.
Thank you,
Celeste Ramey (Hayes, VA)
Mr. Lauer,
Good morning! I just wanted to thank you for such a wonderful story with Prince William & Prince Harry. It was really nice to see Diana’s boys acting like “normal” (oops…there’s that word again!) young men. I am/was very fascinated with their mother and was very saddened by her death, but I can understand why it seems like just yesterday to Harry & William because of all the press coverage, I can’t even imagine how they cope with their loss. I lost my mother 4 years ago and know how sad I am without her; I can’t even imagine how Harry & William could handle everything that the press has said about their mom. Anyway, thank you so much for the wonderful interview! GREAT JOB!

As a regular viewer of the Today show, I want to compliment Matt on the excellent interview he performed with William and Harry. The Princes came off as relaxed and candid as possible for royals. As Matt mentioned on the Larry King show, they do seem like fellows that you would like to bring home to dinner.
The purpose of my E-Mail however, is to say that Matt was so relaxed during this interview that he created a non- threatening environment for the Princes. Obviously, the interview was designed to draw attention to the 10th Anniversary of Princess Diana's death but it really did give light to the royal family and the pressures they face on a daily basis.
As a Canadian, I have a sense of loyalty to the monarchy and I am delighted to have seen such a refreshing side of the Windsor boys. My husband always tells people that I am a 66 year old "Today Show" groupie...thank you to the "team" for bringing attention to all facets of news coverage comfortably into my home on a daily basis.

Congratulations to Matt Lauer on his interview with Prince William and Prince Harry. I watched all the segments day & night and thought Matt did an outstanding job. The boys are wonderful - natural, charming, well spoken etc. - how proud their mom must be.
