This morning, Masi Oka, who plays Hiro Nakamura on the hit NBC show "Heroes," stopped by for an interview with Meredith, David, Al and Campbell. WATCH VIDEO

I caught up with him for a few minutes before his appearance, and we chatted about his recent fame, Robin Williams, and his upcoming college reunion. Here's some of our conversation (edited for content):

Q: So you've got your 10-year college reunion coming up at Brown University. What will you say to people who come up to you and ask what you've been up to lately?

Masi Oka: Oh, I'll just tell them I've been living the life. Living my dream.

Q: You won't say something like, "Oh, I've been doing some acting" or "I'm on a TV show"?

MO: No, I'll just say I've been living my dream. If they don't know who I am at this point, then I haven't been doing my job.

Q: So how are your degrees in mathematics and computer science working out for you?

MO: Well they were great initially, because they got me my first job, working at Industrial Light and Magic. I was a programmer, programming effects and creating programs to create effects.

Q: So how did you make the transition from programming to acting?

MO: After my first big show, which was The Perfect Storm, I just decided I'd like to try something different. I had no family obligations at the time, so I just decided to give acting a try.

Q: What was your first acting job?

MO: It was for a show called "Straight White Male" on the FX channel. It was a pilot but it never made it to air.

Q: You've had a lot of recurring roles and guest appearances on some TV shows. What were your favorites to work on?

MO: I loved working on "Scrubs." I just love that show, and everyone was so great to work with. I also really liked working on "Reno 911!" It's a pure improv show, and it was really fun to do 30 minutes of improv -- though it ends up being more like 45 seconds of actual air time.

Q: Have you met anyone cool or had any noteworthy experiences since "Heroes" became such a hit?

MO: Everything's been so surreal. The Golden Globes were just amazing, seeing all these people that you idolize. At the People's Choice Awards, in front of me was Robin Williams. So he sees me and says, "Oh yeah, you're that guy from 'Heroes.' You're the math and computer science whiz kid from M.I.T." I kind of said, "Close, I went to Brown." Then I turned to my friends and said, "Oh my God, Robin Williams knows who I am." And my friends said to me, "He's still talking to you!" He told me he's a big fan of the show.

Right now, I'm getting to work with one of my idols, Steve Carell, on a movie [a remake of the 1960s TV show "Get Smart"].

It's also weird when people like Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg know who you are.

I am a Heroes fan and Masi is my hero, on and off the show. He is so real, intelligent and educated and has such a positive attitude. It comes across on the show and whenever he does personal appearances on TV (Today, Tonight, The Late Show etc.) Congratulations to him on all his achievements.
I love Masi and he really showed his humor today on the show. I only got to see the first minute since I had to go to work but have watched it 3 times since I got home. Heroes is a great show but I think Masi is the best.
Who doesn't love a guy next door type making it in Hollywood. He is living a dream, way to go Masi! His appeal is because he is so real. On the show the future Hiro seems so dark and jaded....I'm not looking forward to seeing that side but any time the camera is on Masi I light up!
I really enjoy Masi Oka and I think he is a great addition to anything! He is easily likable.
Masi Oka is inspiring, because he is unconventional and yet one the more successful performers. Great for him!
I have a crush on Masi Oka! (sigh.)
Masi, keep it up, dawg. You do us Asian men proud. Oh, and I sure hope you get to drop the accent soon. Future-Hiro f*ckin' kicks ass!
Masi is a phenomenal actor. I think both his characters "Hiro" and "Franklin" (from scrubs) are hilarious. He is the type of actor I want to be someday. Oh, and do you think he can get me a guest appearance on Heroes? Hahaha....No, Seriously.
he is by far the best hero on the show. i had no idea that he was so smart. my master's in math never landed me on a tv show... :)
I tune in to watch only for him. It makes the show the hit it is. Of all the characters on Heroes, his is the only one I readily connect with. It makes watching the show all that more enjoyable when you are whole-heartedly rooting for someone so likeable. Congrats to Masi for all his success and best wishes to future successes.
Masi Oka's character is one of the main reasons why I continue to watch Heroes. Everyone else is awesome, but you can't help but love Hiro's genuine nature. He's so sweet and caring. Masi has become my new favourite actor!
you are one of the best hereos. Its the best show ever!
Kudos on going to college but yet following your dream. The doors of opportunity have opened up for you and your role on Heroe's is but a stepping stone for what is to come. Never forget from where you came nor your college experience for you always have that to use to your advantage. Heroe's is a wonderful show and a treat to watch. Keep up the good work!
I fell in love with the character of Hiro when I first watched the show, and then I fell in love with Masi himself when I saw him interviewed (and found out he worked at ILM.) Talk about living your dreams! And it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. He just seems so warm and sweet in real life. Best of luck to you Masi - you are made of AWESOME!!
Cheers to all of the Heroes! An inspirational cast highlighted by Masi Oka! Good TV that brings out the Hero in all of us! What a great guy.
Best of luck to Masi. What fun for an actor to play TWO roles (dark/futuristic and present day/optimistic). Heroes is a great show and it is over too fast every week. Can't wait till the next one!
