Where in the World is Matt Lauer Going? Here's a hint...

(From Paul Manson, TODAY Producer)

Where in the world is Paul Manson.

Allow my to introduce myself.   I'm one of the today show producers.  I've been with the show for 8 years now ... Sometimes it's hard to believe.  But as is true with many of our staff, it’s a hard place to leave because it’s a terrific place to work.

I'm often reminded what a privilege this job is.  As a producer you have the opportunity to travel quite a bit, meeting interesting people often with a front row seat to history.

Those who are fans of the show will be familiar with our annual series, “Where in the World is Matt Lauer?”  In order to get Matt ready for a week of world travel teams of producers hit the ground ahead of time to scout locations and shoot stories reflecting what's going on in each country.  I'm currently on location doing just that.

I'll give you a hint on where Matt is headed next week.  Here goes…

I am somewhere on earth.  Due to budget cutbacks and the inevitable exorbitant cost we had to forgo plans for “Where in Outer Space is Matt Lauer?”  So I am in fact somewhere on earth.  Here are some other facts I've garnered since hitting the ground.  The people we've met here are extremely friendly...They generally eat three meals a day and tend to sleep at night.  Unfortunately that's about all I can say.

Tune in next week for more. As they say in this country.... Goodbye.

I love the Today show and all the people on it and Where in the world is Matt Lauer is such fun. I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!
How come Matt gets to have all the fun. I'm going to Portugal October 14th, to the Algarve, then the Azores then driving north to Lisbon (where there is a world famous Puppet theatre, the Oblivos (where St. Isabella took food to the poor. When questioned by her fearful family that she was depleting the castle of food, the bread in her cloack turned to roses). Queen Isabell also gave her crown to a poor girl for a day and fed the poor free, a custom repeated by the Portugese communities in California in Sacramento, San Jose and many smaller cities where queens march with their maids and little children carry the ends of the cape ...beginning on Pentecost, 50 days after Easter. These are known as the Holy Ghost festivals and they go on for weekends until every community has had one. We are going to Fatima as well, a holy place for Catholics. Meredith could celebrate her Portuguese heritage and Matt could keep the home fires burning. Peace and blessings, Carol Zarek
why don't you come to The Big Sur race on sunday the 29th??? It is a world renowned event and we would love to host Matt. Plus I am participating in the run and would let Matt run beside me!!!

We were inspired by last year WITWIML and followed Peter Greenburg's advice on wrap day, went to AIRTREKS, had great planning with Daniel Gamber. Left July 13, 06 from San Francisco, returned Dec. 1 ... five terrific months of adventure: Hawaii, Figi, New Zealand, Australia, Thailand, Scotland, Ireland, France, Italy, Greece, Spain, back from Portugal. Airtreks honored our budget for the air segments. We did lots of public transportation, buses, trains, rental cars, booked hotels on line often only a day or two in advance. It was a terrific adventure. We are retired psychologist and opera singer who live the great motor-home life. Much of our adventure was visiting places I had sung, but never had time to "sight-see". Bon Voyage ML. Thanks for the motivation!
hi my name is alexandra colon and i'm in sixth grade. me and my mom watch the today show everyday and our favorite one is matt lauer . i think its a great idea for him to travel around the world.he should go to france.
the today show is the best.it tells you what happens in the world. also tells you news ,weather and many more.
I have a feeling that the answer to Monday's destination in Panama. He has been to numerous So. American or island destinations in the vicinity in recent years. Have a great time, Matt. How lucky are you!
I believe Matt Lauer will launch his voyage in the country, U.S.A., based on the hint broadcast on the today show Thursday, April 26th, approximately 8:00 MST. Specifically, I believe her will make his first ftop on the top of the Continental Divide, elevation approximately 12,ooo feet above sea level, in the Rocky Mountains at the summit of Loveland Pass, 60 miles west of Denver, Colorado.
HEY WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO BE ON MONDAY APRIL 30,2007 BECAUSE I NEED TO KNOW SO I CAN GET A 5 EXTRA CREDITS IN GEOGRAPHY AND I LOVE THE MORNING SHOW!!!!!!!!!!...........
CHAO is goodbye ...your in Italy again
Australia?
I think matt lauer's first stop is going to be in the united kingdom.
I would guess that the first country Matt will visit is the good old USA. From today clue, I would assume he always leaves from JFK Airport in Brooklyn, NY. Brooklyn is a very interesting and surprising place. The airport is in Howard Beach.
METROPOLIS ILLINOIS!
OK the comment I posted earlier is wrong. I realize that the local affiliate is having a contest and giving clues about where Flat Matt will be in our region. Based on the clue and from what I read hear, my co worker and I are thinking Matt will be in Florida at an air port and will be taking off on the plane that gives people the 0 gravity experience!
I think matt lauer's first stop is going to be in the united kingdom.
Matt will be in New York NBC studios? Rockefeller Plaza? Empire state?
Matt should come to Maine to start his journey. That way he could relax first in this great state before starting his long journey and enjoy the scenery.
Hi im Britney from Bronx,NY.i was wondering is matt lauer going to brazil, peru,or austrlaia?Am i even close to know where he's going?
Is Matt starting his trip in the United States? Maybe California? that's my guess.
I'm guessing Matt will be in Denmark tomorrow (Tues). I have watched the Today Show for years, wouldn't watch any other morning show!
Day 2 - The Denmark Forts - Trelleborg?
I think Matt is off to Denmark for Tuesday.
My guess your next stop would be Florida.
He's off to Anchorage, Alaska....shhhh. Don't tell.
Alaska, That's my quess. See the whales.
I'm going to guess that on Friday, Matt will be in Louisville KY at Churchill Downs for the start of Derby weekend. I have lots of reasons to believe this, Queen Elizabeth will be here as well as Larry Birkhead plus a tribute to Barbaro. Besides the Derby, there's lots to report on and see.
Matt's heading to Clare County Ireland to visit the Fairy Forts. That's my guess.
I believe Matt is headed for Anchorage, Alaska next. The clue mentions Ann holding something down while the others are gone, which I believe is the 'anchor' chair.
On Tuesday, I expect to find Matthew McLauer at O'Briens Tower, 600 feet above the sea on the Cliffs of Moher.
I say Matt is headed to Ireland..............lucky as he is!
I'm thinking Australia for some reason. I dunno really.
Matt, This is Mrs. Simpson and my sixth grade class is following you around this week. We're not sure how Clare fits into it, but we know a great highway we would love to see you on. We think you will be in Germany on the Autobahn.Happy travels from Santa Fe Elem.in Moore, Okla.
Matt is probably going to Lahinch, Clare, Ireland.
Matt is probably going to Lahinch, Clare, Ireland for Tuesday May 1st.
My guess is the Clair-Fort Kent Bridge crossing the St John River between Clair, New Brunswick and Fort Kent, Maine. That's the answer that fits the clues!
Matt is going to the Cliff's of Mothar in ennis Ireland. The Language Center Clare is in ennis Ireland and Ann will be holding down the fort. Hence the site of fort Mothar, at the cliff's of Mothar.
On Tuesday, I'm betting Matt will be in the south Pacific touring a tuna factory or visiting the grave of Robert Louis Stevenson. From Paul's hint... 3 meals a day, sleep at night, english speaking, known as the "friendly people". Hmmm...sounds like the Samoans to me. (If Paul had said Talofa instead of Goodbye, it would have given it away for sure.)
Matt will be in Fort Goryokaku Japan on Tuesday. I am sure of it. Connie
On Wednesday, I think Matt will be in Monaco-"son is rising, money is power.............
I WOULD GO WITH IRELAND
Ireland was interesting, thanks, my thoughts, after clues of the next destination were mentioned, is China, maybe the capital city, and next site of the world olypics. Ann, Al, Matt, Meridith, and all; You guys rock; and Meridith did prove to be a great fit; despite my doubts - I now adore her. (thanks for not soliciting for my vote) lol
Hey Matt, first I'd just like to salute you for all of your outgoing & what appears to be a very energetic appearance. I am currently in the army & thanks to the military have been to Jamaica, Panama, Japan, Germany, Canada, Alaska, & Iraq. All of which I found very exciting. The only problem I had was the trips to Jamaica & Iraq what with how long it took. By the time I had got their all that I wanted to do was sleep. Most people that don't travel have no idea how much it takes a lot out of you with the long flights. I admire you & wish you luck in all the fun exciting places that you have been to & will be. Sincerely, Specialist Robert N. Cox Delta FSC 141 out of Bend, Oregon.
Not to be Debbie Downer or anything but I thought I had Thursday's location pegged! Based on the clue, I chose Valencia, Spain which is about to host the America's Cup this summer - mainly because they used the word "sail". I think "host" was probably not the right word to use in the clue. I realize they meant the islands they are building in the shape of the world, but why not say it represent or something else? Again, not trying to be negative, I was just disappointed! I'll try again today!
I am convinced he is off to Cape Town South Africa for his last day!
