Would You Kiss and Tell... In a Blog?

What could be more fun than rehashing the details of your most recent date with a best friend? We’ve all done it… spilled on the good, the bad and the ugly (not to mention the awkwardness) that usually results when two strangers meet up for the first time. But a growing number of singles have decided blushing over these mishaps with just one friend isn’t nearly as much fun as sharing it with the whole world on the Internet. (WATCH VIDEO) Whether or not this format works for you, it’s hard not to be entertained.
Hi, my name is Danielle and I’m an Associate Researcher for the Weekend Today Show. I’ve worked here for about a year and a half and have recently started producing a number of the segments we categorize as "Relationships 101". This week, I had the opportunity to work on the segment I referred to in the above paragraph - Dating Blogs.
Most of the ideas for spots we produce at Weekend Today are sparked by articles, individual experiences, book pitches or, on occasion, Lester finding a way to live out his dreams while being paid for it (see Lester’s 'Band from TV' blog for more on that). The Dating Blogs segment, for instance, was the result of a co-worker’s discovery of a dating blog called "39 Second Single" (so funny... and addictive)!
But the 39 Second Single is not alone out there. When I began my initial research on the subject, I was floored by the number of dating blogs available online. I suppose I shouldn't have been quite so surprised - online dating was completely taboo not so long ago, however I now have plenty of friends who are in serious relationships as a result of EHarmony and Match.com. But, is searching for that special someone online the same as complaining to the whole world that the guy you just went to dinner with had "a double-chin... [and] his neck was abnormally huge"?
I’m single and have undoubtedly had my fair share of cringe-worthy moments in my pursuit for Mr. Right. (My sister likes to tell people about the time I realized Sake wasn’t a brand of Japanese tea on a first date - 5 tiny glasses in!) Yet, even after laughing for hours while reading hilarious tales of dates gone horribly wrong and finding a certain level of awe for anyone with this ability to open up, I still had a hard time thinking I would ever have the guts to post my embarrassing moments for complete strangers to read.
Which leaves me with a single question for you: Am I just terribly old-fashioned or are there some things that should remain private… (well, at least between best friends)?
